Good luck with the MRI today. I hope Zoey will be ok. |
I didn't see your thread until now. I'm glad you have taken her to a neurologist. I hope that you have some answers w/ the MRI and CSF test. Please keep us posted. |
Prayers for Zoey to have a healing and be restored to health. ((hugs)) for Mom. |
What did the tests show? Praying that she's ok. |
They found inflamation in the brain encephalitis The spinal tap did no reveal the cause It's taken a great toll on our heart and our wallet I dont know what to say.... They will give her cortisone shots but at this point I don't know if the dog will return to her normal self She is still alert which made an impression on the vet given the amount of inflammation Feel so bad for her |

Will the cortisone be needed long term (sorry, I'm not very familiar with encephalitis)? |
2 highDoses The possibly chimo pills after that |
I am so sorry. Will keep your precious Zoey in my thoughts and prayers. |
I am so sorry sending prayers and best wishes for Zoey and hugs for her family. I hope she responds well to the medication and returns to her normal self. |
Oh dear I am so sorry to hear this. We will pray for Zoey. Hopefully the cortisone will reduce the inflammation, and her internal healing powers will help clear up, any residual problem. I know those tests are costly, but now you know. Now you have at least something in the treatment plan that could make a difference for Zoey. |
I'm so sorry. :( I hope she improves with treatment. I think we've had people post about encephalitis before so if you do a search here you may find some good information. |
I am so sorry to hear this. Muffin was diagnosed with Yorkie encephalitis about two years ago. But her's was caused by vaccinations she had a few weeks before....called vaccinosis-(heavy metal poisoning). I did not sleep for a week, looking for a wholistic Veterinarian in my area. I finally found one about an hour and a half away. The hospital told me she would be on prednisone for the rest of her life and that her life expectancy would be affected. My wholistic vet told me she could save her life and that all her functions would return to normal and she would have a normal life expectancy if I followed her instructions exactly to the letter. Which I did. And after about 6 months of intensive treatments, therapy and supplements and nutritional adjustments Muffin is her old self again, a normal healthy active baby going on four years old. She was just 1 1/2 years old when this incident occurred. If Zoey has had any vaccinations or combination of vaccinations, I would not waste one second-I would seek out the best wholistic vet in the area. Even if she didn't have any vaccinations recently, I would still look into this option if at all possible. You never know, miracles do happen. Muffin is living proof. She had the exact same symptoms as Zoey, and they are all gone now. Naturally this is your decision, as her mom, but just thought I'd toss this option out there for you to consider. My heart is with you, whatever you decide. I send you and Zoey light and love. Namaste, Shellie, Muffin and Cassie |
There is a specialist in Boston, Dr Sisson. I would get a second opinion. Keeping your little one in my prayers. |

It was the day after the anesthesia , MRI and spinal tap The vet said there were only 6 drops and therefore was not able to determine the cause of the encephalitis The vet was amazed she was so responsive given the amount of inflammation found and given the anesthesia medication She's on cortisone now and her condition has improved She still has a slight tilt to her head and seems to bd fighting the disbalance We decided to take her home and care for her , she is able to eat n drink on her own as well as do her business The vet told us she's got a chance of fighting it off and we should know in a week if the encephalitis is going to be fatal or of she will pull through I think I will consult a holistic vet to get any kind of additional help Thanks for all tgf replies and the positive energy :) |
