If it were me, I would see if it continued before going crazy with testing. |
On the flip side she gets to meet a new vet; not a bad thing. I found my new general vet, by taking Magic in for an acupuncture treatment from my now current vet. By great good luck, my new vet knows my ortho vet, both think well of each other. They both examined separately my new 7mth old import, well that's another story, lol. But after the dust settled, similar opinions. |
Well, we're home. And, I feel like the world's most terrible puppy parent. As you know, we took Bella into the vet for this before, shortly after we got her. Well, they asked all kinds of questions at that time, including "..are her stools well formed?" I said yes...because they looked well formed to me! I mean, they looked like what I thought were normal puppy poops (similar to Brussel's only smaller). That's when they said it was due to the adjustment to the new surroundings. Well... today while we were there, it was by sheer luck that she had to poop. She pooped and the vet said "Eureka! Is that what her stool always looks like?" ..and I said yes. He said she's constipated and that the little droplets of blood/mucus are from straining too hard. He said they're not well-formed, they're too bulky and too large. Diagnosis: Constipation Treatment: Put 1/8th teaspoon of canned pumpkin (which they gave me there) into her food every other day, but keep her on the kibble she's currently on because it's good stuff. ...I feel like a complete failure. I really thought her poopy was normal and it's because I was ignorant that she had little blood spots. She then got her DHPP booster shot. Next shot will be at 6 months, for the rabies. I just feel like a MORON for not knowing she was constipated. I have canceled the appointment with the new vet as well, because I do trust the one we have. This was my fault, not his. I told him in the beginning her stool formation was fine (because I thought they were). Summary: Bella will be fine now that her person is educated about poop! :aimeeyork |
You're not a Bad Mommie! Make sure she's drinking enough water, as that can make stools firm too. During playbreaks, put her in front of the water bowl for a drink, I even wet my fingers and let them lick off the droplets to get them started drinking, and I add a few tablespoons of water to their food... Pumpkin is great... it will work both for constipation and diarrhea, good to keep on hand! (I love your vet!)ღ |

You actually sound like a great doggy mommy to me. People make mistakes. Don't beat yourself up about it. She's going to get better because of your actions. Glad to hear it's only constipation EDIT TO ADD: OMG Kathy!!! LOL |
Great news. I kinda confused though. I thought pumpkin was to help stop loose stools..does it work for both? Your not a bad Momma....its a learning experience!! Now you know! (((hug))) Bobbi |

[SIZE=3]Yep and it works for humans as well, at least for the constipation. LOL |
we use canned pumpkin or canned sweet potatos...Both work wonders for an upset tummy. So I'm glad everything is good! |
Just an update...Bella gobbles up the small amount of pumpkin with no issue (she likes it) and her poopies are healthy (according to that disgusting poop chart posted, but thank you, it did help!) No mucus or blood have been seen since.:) |
Yay! WooHoo! PS: You would not believe the number of threads on YT about poop! |
