Glad to hear that you have a plan for Layla...that is sometimes the hardest part of dealing with any illness. I have no experience at all with what you are dealing with, but I'm wondering if there is an alternative to using a daily antibiotic to prevent infection...Is there a Holistic vet near you? As I said, because I don't have any experience, I don't want to suggest that you would be wrong to go with a permanent antibiotic, but I do know that sometimes antibiotics can have side-effects and frequent use can result in resistance. If there was a more holistic way to prevent infection it might be worth it, as an option after this infection gets cleared up. I've been seeing a Holistic Vet for skin/health conditions in my Schnauzer, and we've been able to decrease the need for other harsher treatments. Good luck with the new plan. Here's hoping that Layla gives those bacteria the boot quickly!! |
Glad to hear that the vet thinks the antibiotics will clear things up for Layla....good news that she is not resistant to lots of meds. Will keep you and Layla in my prayers for a quick recovery and continued good health. BTW did I miss the thread where you added new family members...I saw somewhere that you have two new additions? Congratulations and best of luck to all of you. |
Thanks everyone! Sweet Girls, I know that cranberry works to help prevent UTI's in humans, so I might ask the vet if there's something I can give Layla like that too. I know they make cranberry pills for people but I'm not sure if they're safe for dogs. I think we will just need to schedule a regular urinalysis every month or so for the next little while to see if it's going to be a recurring problem. And yes, we do have two new additions :) There are some pictures of them here: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/our...-new-kids.html |

There are cranberry supplements for dogs. :) Also some people swear by Chinese herbs. |

Keeping positive thoughts for Layla. When Cali had a UTI the vet gave me some powder that was cranberry to put on her food. |
