Hoping you get good news! |
Waiting to hear some good news!! |
I'm still waiting to hear too! I don't know how long it is supposed to take, but we had the sample at the lab as soon as they opened this morning. |
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that you get good news. |
Thanks! We still have not heard a thing. If there's no message on the voicemail when we get home tonight, I'll call tomorrow. We just got a bill in the mail from her last urinalysis (she was really busy and didn't have time to let us pay) so it would be nice to go in to pay for that and the culture and get the results all at the same time. |
Just seeing this. I'll also be keeping my fingers crossed that everything clears up. I am constantly inspired by stories such as Layla's, as both your sacrifice and her strength reminds me of all the great dog/pet owners out there...takes some of the depression out of reading about the number of pets who are "thrown" away when they become inconvenient! |

Amen to that!!! :) |
Just seeing this. Praying that Layla gets her urinary tract clear. |
Thank you guys so much!! Still no word from the vet. |
Still waiting and praying that little Layla is doing better. |
Sorry, I was busy for the weekend and just got back to update! Layla's vet left a message on our phone on Friday, and we found out she has 4 kinds of bacteria, including E. Coli. The only antibiotic she has resistance to is penicillin. So the vet sent us home with amoxicillin and thinks it should clear it up. She wants us to get her checked a lot more often and she thinks she will probably have to be on antibiotics for the rest of her life, whether it's every month or every few months or whatever. |

Hopefully Layla's urine will clear up quickly! :) |
Sending good thoughts for little Layla to get well on the antibiotics. |
I am just seeing this thread. I was thinking about you all and wondering how you were doing. Congratulations on the new additions. I am so sorry to hear that Layla is having more issues. Poor Layla and Gabby sending prayers that they both conquer their infections and find an solution to keep them from reoccurring. Blessings on these furbabies. |
Glad to hear that you have a plan for Layla...that is sometimes the hardest part of dealing with any illness. I have no experience at all with what you are dealing with, but I'm wondering if there is an alternative to using a daily antibiotic to prevent infection...Is there a Holistic vet near you? As I said, because I don't have any experience, I don't want to suggest that you would be wrong to go with a permanent antibiotic, but I do know that sometimes antibiotics can have side-effects and frequent use can result in resistance. If there was a more holistic way to prevent infection it might be worth it, as an option after this infection gets cleared up. I've been seeing a Holistic Vet for skin/health conditions in my Schnauzer, and we've been able to decrease the need for other harsher treatments. Good luck with the new plan. Here's hoping that Layla gives those bacteria the boot quickly!! |
Glad to hear that the vet thinks the antibiotics will clear things up for Layla....good news that she is not resistant to lots of meds. Will keep you and Layla in my prayers for a quick recovery and continued good health. BTW did I miss the thread where you added new family members...I saw somewhere that you have two new additions? Congratulations and best of luck to all of you. |
Thanks everyone! Sweet Girls, I know that cranberry works to help prevent UTI's in humans, so I might ask the vet if there's something I can give Layla like that too. I know they make cranberry pills for people but I'm not sure if they're safe for dogs. I think we will just need to schedule a regular urinalysis every month or so for the next little while to see if it's going to be a recurring problem. And yes, we do have two new additions :) There are some pictures of them here: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/our...-new-kids.html |

There are cranberry supplements for dogs. :) Also some people swear by Chinese herbs. |

Keeping positive thoughts for Layla. When Cali had a UTI the vet gave me some powder that was cranberry to put on her food. |
