PLEASE help, i dont know what to do! :0( my yorkie lucy has NEVER been sick, little did we know her anal glands were about to rupture, the doc drained them because she was yelping etc so bad...well 2 days go buy, he gave her an anti inflamatory. she woke up in middle of night yelping l ike crazy and shaking uncontrolably. Another vet put her on doggy tamadol for pain, said its just swollen etc, should feel better in a few days, well today is monday, this happened on tuesday, and she just started yelping again...someone pls help...how long should she take to feel better? i feel so horrible for her, and cant stop crying :0( she is goin to another vet tomorrow at 1... |
I think she needs a return visit to a vet. Something is definitely wrong. Unfortunately, poor vets are working w patients who cannot speak to tell them what they are feeling. It makes diagnosing a bit challenging sometimes; sometimes requiring repeated visits to get to the bottom of things. I would also worry there is more going on. Please take that little baby to the vet. |
I agree. If your pup is actively yelping, then the best thing to do is go to the ER. Was an antibiotic given? Are they sure this is just anals and not something else? |
i dont know. she isnt yelping now, its like quick spirts, like she will move the wrong way or something and then yelp alot, then an hour later she is running around, she has never yelped before t his...i took her to vets 3 times and 400.00 ill do whatever i have to to make her better. i was reading up, it seems odd they gave no antibiotic, only an anti inflamatory and pain meds...tomorrow in gonna request a xray...does anone know what this might run? im in pa. also what other problems would you think are going on..me and poor lulu are a mess over h ere |
I hope you can take her to a more specialized Vet. and get to the bottom of what's happening to her. Seems too much medication has already been given and I sure wouldn't want to put her on yet another. |
I agree, it sounds like there could be an infection going on. Often when there is an infection the anals can fill up again in less then 24 hrs. I have a little one who suffers from seasonal allergies & that makes his anals fill up quickly. My vet gives him antibiotic & I have to empty his anals daily while he's taking the antibiotic & the infection clears up but without the daily expressing the antibiotic does not usually completely clear it up. |
oh wow!!! you have to do it daily...hey whatever it takes.. :0( |
If there is an infection, antibiotics should be given. If there may be, antibiotics are usually still given. I would just let the new vet assess whether an xray is needed. If they decide they want to see the whole body, then usually two views are taken. However, the lighting needed for the abdomen and chest are different, so then you may need more. That's why they palpate all over first to try and isolate the pain. One xray view here is about $80 and then the second is probably $40 or $50. All vets have their ways of doing things. I have never heard any vet say they need to be emptied daily in cases of infection. |
