Need a Little prayer for Bogie
 

Monday evening Bogie was sitting on my lap and I was petting him. I felt a hard knot on his spine which really freaked me out. He wasn't showing any signs of pain when I rubbed on it and has been playing normally and eating fine.

My DIL looked at it for me this morning, as she is a vet tech for my vet. She didn't want to scare me but recommended he be seen today. My vet was really concerned because of the location of the knot so they did an x-ray, which showed nothing. (which they said was a good thing) Long story short...it was an abscess which he feels was caused from a reaction to a depo shot Bogie had a couple of months ago for some seasonal allergies.

He is on clavamox for the infection and rimadyl to hopefully shrink it. He told me that I got him in quickly as the abscess wasn't really big yet. If I had let it go longer it could have grown and would have had to be surgically removed. If the meds don't clear it up he may have to still have it surgically removed so please pray for my little guy.

I pray that the medication works. I am so thankful that I check my two from head to toe on a regular basis or I might not have noticed the knot before it got a lot larger. Right now it is about the size of the tip of my thumb.

Oh my Michelle...poor Bogie. I know you were scared to death about your lil boy ...I pray that the meds work and Bogie has a quick recovery. Seems like a lot of furbabies are having problems lately. The girls send puppy kisses to Bogie :)

Poor little Bogie. Glad you were right on top of things and got him in there while it stayed at that size! Hoping little Bogie's abscess shrinks w meds and excising is not necessary!

Thanks guys!! I am glad I am an overprotective momma. DH is always saying they are ok quit worrying. This is one time I think he is glad I am the way I am.

You are a such a good in tune momma to Bogie and Jada. Glad that you got him right into the vet and he is hopefully on his way to a full recovery with the antibiotic.

I'm like you, I check mine from head to tail ever day. I know my girl's must think, sheez Mom what gives. LOL But I have found many things that way.

That's great you caught it early! Hopefully the antibiotics will knock it out. Did they suggest warm compresses? If not, you might want to ask ... might help.

I will ask about the warm compress LJ, I was so upset when Doc asked for the x-ray to make sure it wasn't attached to the spine, I don't remember him saying to do the warm compress. I will ask about that.

So far so good on the meds...no tummy upsets or diarrhea. This is the first time Bogie has had to take anything other than his preventative meds (HW and flea).

Fingers and toes crossed for Bogie, that meds will work for abscess. And I'm so glad you caught it as early as you did.

Thank you all for your wonderful words of encouragement and prayers. This morning the lump seems to be not nearly as hard. It is still basically the same size, but it does seem to be getting better.
