Will say a prayer for you guys! |
Praying hope Bogie is ok! |
Just saw this....I am glad that you found the lump so quickly and hopefully the meds will clear it up. It just breaks your heart when something isn't right with these guys....sounds like you keep a close eye on them....what a good momma. Hugs and prayers being sent your way for a quick recovery. |
Quick update...the abscess seems to be breaking up. The knot is still there but some smaller. It was very hard at first and I could not manipulate it. This morning it is really loose and feels like a little marble moving around, I didn't call the vet but talked to my DIL vet tech and she said that is a really good sign that it is shrinking and the meds are working. |

So glad it's not worse! Keep us updated. Sending good vibes for Bogie! |
What great news! Go Bogie!!!! |
Oh no! Michelle, I am just seeing this. Glad that Bogie was seen quickly and that the pesky bump seems to be shrinking. Levi had a scary, hard little bump over the summer. It took a couple of weeks, but it healed completely with steroids and an antibiotic. Sending good vibes Bogie's way. |
Michelle, just now seeing this. So glad the update sounds good. Keeping Bogie in my thoughts and prayers that the abcess continues to heal. So glad you caught that early. |
Sounds like things are promising for Bogie. Good to hear. I'm curious to know if they did a fine needle aspirate on Bogie? They are sure it's an abscess, right? This sounds like something similar to maybe what Nutmeg has right now. Her cytology report came back and her lump isn't cancerous, so thank heavens for that. The just saw a lot of inflammation in the cells and it's kind of a mystery as to what the lump is because it's pretty solid. They said they could start her on antibiotics to see if that works or they could remove the lump now, which they think is the best option. They told me with lumps that it very well could be a fatty lump that can appear suddenly and disappear just as suddenly, but even if they disappear they can quickly pop up again especially if the lump is lipoma (benign accumulation of fat). This was from a double board certified vet in Boston at Angell Memorial, so that kind of freaks me out! Especially since I've read lots of horror stories about dogs with lumps, especially lipoma where Vets told them to just watch them, and then the lump came back causing serious problems to the point where surgery requires sometimes amputation and/or other serious complications. But also lumps sometimes disappear and never appear again too, so what is one to to do? I asked if an MRI would be helpful too in determining if something foreign got into Nutmeg or if it would give a better idea of what the lumps was and they said it wouldn't. I guess a biopsy is really the best bet to know for sure what a lump on your dog really is? |

Oh my goodness that is really frightening. I am so glad that the medication seems to be working and that you caught the abcess soon enough. Hope Bogie is doing well soon. At least now with some good news you can start to feel a little bit better but I'm sure you will feel a whole lot better about things when the abscess is completely gone. Thoughts and prayers for you and Bogie. |
