He is so cute!!! I'm glad he is ok. If it were my pup I would take him in and let the vet look him over just to be sure. I hope you stick around too. I would love to watch little Chipper grow up and hear updates on him. |
Lets all be nice. Accidents will happen. When my son was a baby I was dressing him in the pediatrician's exam room and he wiggled right onto the floor. He cried and I cried. The doctor checked him and told me to stop beating up myself. Lets not beat up the individual because they do enough of that themselves. Trust me I know. I am just glad Chipper is doing fine. However for your own reassurance a quick vet may put you at ease versus speaking with your vet on the phone. |
So glad that your baby is ok. You will find people on this forum quite passionate about theirs and your furbabys. When choosing to or not to go to the ER vet, measure it up against what you would do for a skin baby. There are injurys that sometimes dont show up for hours or even days, sometimes a dog does not cry when in pain. An xray would tell you for sure that your baby is ok. If $$ is a factor then start a medical fund for your baby,I did and it came in handy just this past Sunday. Although these little ones are not skin kids,we,as their owners, are just as responsible for their care as if they were skin kids. The information that you will find here will be most helpful. I have even been able to share things that I have learned here with my vet. |

We needed to get help (yes I'm the person who momentarily wanted to dial 9-1-1 and have an ambulance come to save my dog-but realized I'd need to take my dog to help) I couldn't reach my own vet (it was after hours and yes we no longer go there) I kind if knew the turn off towards the shopping center where the new ER vet was located...off we went out the door! I had two different flip flops on (we kept our shoes in the closet by front door and only wore slippers in the house) my poor son didn't even have shoes on...we literally flew out the door I had Elvis in my arms wrapped in a towel my son on my back-I did however have my purse thrown over my shoulders with my wallet and cell phone in it thankfully. |

Back years ago when little Tina broke her leg in 2 places she only cried for a couple of minutes. We thought maybe she just sprained it when she fell from the bed, but, boy was I glad we decided to take her on in to the vet to make sure. It never hurts to know for sure. Accidents happen to everyone and thats why they are called accidents because it was not done on purpose. Don't blame yourself, just take care of that baby. |
i personally would still see a vet to make sure there are no internal injuries. pups bounce back fast from accidents but that doesn't always mean all is well inside. that's my advice from someone who has worked for a vet and seen dogs come in that seem fine and have major things going wrong inside their heads or internal organs. |
Please take him to a vet right away and have him checked out. It would really give you piece of mind and you will know if he really hurt himself. Prayers are with you and hope all goes well. Susan |

I'm sure other med ppl will agree. I have seen pts much larger than a tiny yorkie fall from shorter distances and break much larger bones that the little pup has. Just bc someone has fallen and has been lucky and nothing was broken does not mean the next individual who falls from the same or even lesser distance will not have a fracture. An old saying, "Just bc you went and got checked out at the dr and everything was ok does not mean I was wrong in telling you to go - it means you were lucky and the things I knew could be wrong w you weren't." |

Heck I knew if I fell 6 ft, almost everything would be broken. Just another tip to the OP as well.. I'm very tall too. And I know even I'm not prepared for how wiggly these guys can be. However, Gizmo almost always has his step-in harness on and if I feel like he's going to be a wiggle worm, or someone new is picking him up, I tell them to hold onto the harness as well. |
Just as a testament to how small a fall can be and still cause serious damage. My daughter (now 13) stepped back off of a 4 inch step not realizing it was there when she was just 1 and not walking long. We were in front of our church talking to the pastor when it happened. She didn't fall just stepped back off the step and not realizing it was there she went down wrong and cried. I knew right away by the sound of her cry that it wasn't the normal cry and almost immediately I knew something was wrong. I said I think she must have broken something and the pastor says "oh no, I think you are over reacting a little, there is no way she broke something from that little step" Well she wasn't crying anymore but we left and took her to the ER and sure enough she had a stress fracture in her leg near her ankle. The pastor couldn't believe it after such a small thing but imagine if we hadn't taken her in! |
