Lulu's at the vet with pacreatitis Lulu has never had any trouble with her tummy, never thrown up, or had any loose stools. I was shocked when she began throwing up at 6am. She threw up several times but by 630 she was acting better & no more throwing up. I called the vet anyway & they got me in first thing this morning. They did blood work & a fecal and confirmed she has pancreatitis. The vet was also concerned about some other levels that came back slightly elevated (cant remember exactly what). She said dehydration could cause the abnormal readings, but once Lulu has recovered from this she will be doing a bile acid test just to make sure. I am sad & worried. I am thankful that we caught it so early, but I hated leaving Lulu all alone. She will stay at least 2 days. :( |
I am sorry your Lulu is sick. :( Often when the lipase and amylase are elevated, the liver enzymes also go up. Hopefully, that is all this is and they will be normal once the pancreatitis is improving. |

Oh NO, do not feel guilty!! Pancreatitis does happen and often they don't really know why. It is not always because of foods!!! I am so sorry that you feel so sad. :( |
I just called to check on Lulu. She is resting now. She hasn't vomited since getting to the vet. They have her on IV fluids & are administering meds as well. I miss her terribly. I'm used to her little pitter patter following me around all day. |
I will keep Lulu on my prayers for a full recovery. It so hard to see them sick. |
Praying for Lulu! |

I'm so sorry your little one is sick. I'm sure she is in great hands and when she comes home, you'll have a happy little girl that will feel a lot better. |
Sending prayers for LuLu. So sorry to hear she is sick, hope she feels much better soon. Hugs))) to LuLu girl. |
Thank you all for your thoughs & prayers. Lulu is doing well & isn't vomiting. They said she is resting well and getting some luvin from the vet staff. I know she's in good hands and she needs to be hospitalized but I miss her so much! She just started sleeping in bed with us a few weeks ago and it's gonna be lonely without her on the other side of me tonight. :( One thing I did want to mention that may help others...I almost did not take Lulu to the vet this morning. She stopped vomiting & started following me around so I though maybe she just had an upset tummy and was better. But I just couldn't let it go & took her in just to be sure. I figured we could rule out dehydration at least...Lulu is a little one at just over 3.5 lbs. I was actually stunned when the blood tests revealed pancreatitis. The vet said we caught it very early & that was good. I am thankful that I took her in to be seen. It's gonna be about $600 to get her better but it could've been much worse (health wise & money wise) if I would have waited even another day. |
Im so sorry Lulu is sick sending prayers and you are a good mommy.:aimeeyork |
I know you miss her terribly. To that I can certainly relate. I hope she continues to improve and be spoiled even more rotten by the staff. I'll keep her in my thoughts and prayers. It never hurts to take them to the vet. It can only hurt if you don't.:) |
I hope Lulu gets a fast recovery. It is so sad to see our babies sick but in the long run Lulu is in good hands. Best of all she has a wonderful Mom. Susan |
This mornings update...Lulu is perky & barking at the vet staff letting them know what she thinks. :) No vomiting or diarhhea. She's still on fluids but it looks good for her to be able to come home tomorrow. I can't wait to have her home! |

If it makes you feel better, he's over a month since the incident and he's doing fantastic. He stayed on IV fluids for over 24hrs at the hospital, had some subQ fluids that same week and was put on 3 different pills for about 10 days. He ate the RX food for the first 3 weeks, I think, and now he's on a regular lower fat food and he's been doing totally fine. :) Jackson ate a large amount of fatty people food the night before he started throwing up (sausage from pizza, chocolate cupcake, etc). So we are sure that is what caused his. |
We just went through something similar with Tucker over the weekend. It was never confirmed that it was pancreatitis, but she said it could of been a mild case. A lot of things can bring on it on and Im thinking his was brought on by him being on predisone for his itching. He is still recovering but making more and more progress everyday. I will definitly keep Lulu in my thougths and prayers... |
Happy news about Lulu!! :) |
Thank you all for your continued thoughts and prayers. I hope no one gets tired of my updates. ;) Lulu is still doing great! She's still on IV fluids and still receiving the meds. She will get to try some food tomorrow and if that goes well & everything else looks good, she will get to come home!! :yay_jump::yay_jump: I miss her so much & can't wait to snuggle up with her and give her some lovings. A few questions for those with experience with pancreatitis...I asked if she would need to be fed a special diet & they said she can go back to her normal food slowly, just no table foods (she didn't get that anyway...at least not intentionally.) Is this normal or should I look into switching her food) She eats TOTW High Prarie kibble and gets a small bit of wet mixed with kibble at night. She also takes glucosamine supplements for her LP and I have to wrap it in a small bite of cheese for her to eat it...from my research, this should be avoided now so what can I use to make her take her pill as she will not take it without the cheese. TIA everyone! My YT friends are awesome!! :yorkietal |
One more question...Lulu gets an Omego 3 supplement mixed with her wet/dry food mixture each night as well. I will double check with the vet about continuing this, but thought I would ask my YT friends too. Can this be continued or is it too much for her now? |

I am glad she is feeling better and may be home today. Thanks for the update. |
The vet said Lulu is a wild child this morning. :D She got her first meal of the prescription food & ate it like it was going out of style. It's looking very good for her to come home this afternoon. I hope my next update is telling you all that Lulu is home! :aimeeyork |
