Hi! I'm glad you came here looking for help. It sounds like your little puppy is suffering from hypoglycemia. I learned about it the hard way. I was uninformed and brought my previous yorkie home at 9 weeks and ended up at the emergency vet. I knew nothing about low blood sugar in yorkies. He started shivering and became lethargic and I thought he was dying. They put him on an IV and thank God he was okay. A puppy at 8 weeks old needs to eat more than 3 times a day and watched VERY carefully for hypoglycemia. It can be deadly if ignored. You need Nutrical or corn syrup to give to her when these symptoms start. I'd also call your vet to let them know what is going on. Is Puppy Vite a vitamin supplement? How long have you had your little girl?

The vet couldn't GUARANTEE that was the reason for the shaking but he thought it was a strong case for it. After the vet's, I kept checking his stools to see if he eliminated the blockage but couldn't find anything! I don't think I missed it but if there was something stuck in his intenstines, it is possible that it was super uncomfortable for him which gave him the reaction. Since the vet visit, he had 2 more episodes of the shaking and since then -- nothing!

At this point, Hudson is doing fine. No more shaking and he's back to his usual self but that really gave me the scares!! I'm going to keep looking out for any unusual behavior. In the meantime, thank you everyone for your concern/prayers!
If he has a rock or ANYTHING in his gut, that the vet feels could be contributing to the symptoms he is having, he has to pass whatevewr it is, or it has to be absorbed.......this is not going to fix itself....you have to thoroughly keep checking his stools to see if it passed. I personally would be doing follow up xrays to see if "it" is still there, if "it" has moved any, or if "it " is absorbed.

FYI: Hypoglycemia does not correct itself. If ANYONE has a baby has an episode of shaking, lethargy, stumbling, etc, and then after a few minutes, he is alright, his issue was NOT hypoglycemia....you have to intervene with glucose in order to correct hypoglycemia....otherwise, a baby with low bloodsugar will continue going down until he dissolves into seizures and if still left untreated, death.

I think this one (NellyBelly) is an old post, from 2011. Someone posted today on this thread about their 8 week old yorkie shaking. That is the post I was responding to

Hi there. An 8 week old puppy needs to eat more than 3 times a day. There is no such thing as over feeding a puppy so just leave food out all the time for her. Other than the shaking, how is she acting? Does she have energy or does she seem really lethargic and tired?

She plays for about an hour or so, and then she starts to shake all of a sudden. Even when she is shaking she plays. I dont know if its the cold on my room because I hace wood floors and are preety cold at night. Today, my dad and I gave her syrup and still she was shaking. I dont think is hypoglycemia because I always give her her PuppyVite and today I gave her the syrup. Sincerely , I dont know what else may be. The vet checked her last week and she did not have any problems at all. If anyone has or had the same experience please reply because I am a first timer on dogs and get really worried about almost anything..

Hi there. Shaking could also be a sign of pain. Yorkies don't cry or yelp when in pain like other dogs do. It could be that she hurt herself while she was playing, or something scared her (they shake when they are scared too), or like the others said, it could be hypoglycemia - could be something she ate like the original poster's pup did. Not sure it could be a number of things. I hope you get it figured out and she gets better soon.

My yorkie he is 15wks old.. he was playing and all of a sudden started throwing up and shaking really bad, couldn't walk was really disoriented .. I ran and put water on my finger and dipped it into the sugar.. he started to come around.. but he will not eat now.. I am forcing him food, prying his little mouth open once in his mouth he will lick and swallow it.. now he is just laying there, how long before he is fully recovered should I keep forcing the food in him...

I really urge you to take you baby to an emergency vet tonight! Throwing up and not drinking can cause them to get very dehydrated which can be very serious. They may have to put your baby on IV fluids. If he is just laying there I am even more worried. It really is wiser to be safe and take them in. Good luck sending prayers for your baby.

Same as what everyone else said. I gave better instructions in a PM to you. If he isn't better soon, go to the ER! Clear Karo, water, food...get those into him.

Checking on Cyndi55. I hope your pup is ok. If he didn't go to a doctor last night, please call your vet and let them know what he was doing. They may want to see him today to check him over. I followed up with a vet visit just to be sure it was Low Blood sugar behavior I saw. I'm over protective and for my peace of mind I got her checked by my vet and discussed her behavior with them so the vet could tell me what to do if it happened again. Let us know how he's doing in a new thread if you can. You'll get more suggestions that way because more people will see it.

Cinders, hi, Thank you so much for checking on me & Dante, I am still not sure how to do a new thread I looked and couldn't figure it out.. Dante is doing wonderful, he was fine after giving him the tiny bit of sugar (forcing it into his tiny mouth) and then after a few minutes once he came around I spoon feed him, just like you did yours... he didn't like it but I wasn't taking any chances...I kept that up until he finally feed himself .. he slept next to me the entire night in his puppy playpen I kept food in there all night long and he ate that as well.. I am happy to say he is back to his old self being silly and wanting all my attention
Today I went and bought the Kero syrup and the nutra cal to put in his food... its so hard potty training him as he won't use a pee pee pad, it was challenging last night he went all over his playpen so we had a mess in the morning... I am trying to figure all this out with him.. I feel like a new mommy... Thank you so very much for all your help and support.. I greatly appreciate all of it.
