Rylee could use your thoughts A dog (not Ellie) bit off or tore part of his ear tonight. It's a bloody mess. I wish I would have stuck to my rule about no chews or food around new dogs, but I gave in and let somebody else give him one. Now I have a dog missing part of an ear and they will probably hate each other for all of eternity. PLEASE SEPARATE DOGS IF THEY HAVE CHEWS OR FOOD, ESP IF THEY ARE NEW TO EACH OTHER. He will probably have part of an ear missing forever over a stupid dog chew. |
Poor little guy! I will be thinking about him. |
Oh no! Poor Rylee. :( Sending prayers that his ear heals quickly and completely. Give him extra hugs from me. |
Poor baby, I'm so sorry, I hope he will be ok. |
Their ears bleed a LOT even with a tiny cut. Poor Rylee. :( |
Poor baby, will be wishing that he is better soon. |
I am so sorry. Poor Rylee...please do not be hard on yourself. Very few people take care of their dogs as good as you do. Again, I'm really sorry that you and Rylee have to go through this. |
I am so sorry. Thoughts and prayers for you and Rylee. |
1 Attachment(s) Here is a pic of his bum ear. :( Over two hours later and it still wants to bleed. |

It's almost all the way to the left in the small pic. Right above the white tile in the background. U shaped. Poor thing. :( Everything is full of blood and of course we're on vacay. |
I'm sure it will stop bleeding. Poor guy. :( |
1 Attachment(s) This should be better. Contrasted against a papertowel. there is some hair hanging down, so not as bad as the pic makes it look. He is ok. No way to wrap it for the night though and no e-collar, so might just have to keep myself awake on YT and get an e-collar and gauze in the am. |
Poor thing! That looks so painful. Maybe when it heals the hair can hide much of it. I hope that baby has something for the pain - and I'll bet you could use 2 aspirin! Am so sorry that this happened to Rylee - and while on vacation! At least he's got a great nurse! My prayers are with you guys. |
Ouch. :( That looks awful. Poor little guy. I am so sorry Crystal...I would be a basket case. :( |
Found this at HowStuffWorks "How to Give First Aid to Your Dog: Tips and Guidelines" Not sure what a vet could do. Maybe antibiotics? Dog's Bleeding Ear Step 1: Restrain the dog if necessary. ©2006 Publications International, Ltd. Step 2 Step 1a: Approach the dog slowly, speaking in a reassuring tone of voice. Step 1b: Muzzle the dog to protect yourself. Step 2: Cover the wound with a clean cloth, sterile dressing, or sanitary napkin. Place dressing material on both sides of the ear flap, then fold it over the top of the dog's head and hold firmly to control bleeding. Step 3: Wrap torn sheets or rags around the dressing, ear, and head, making sure the entire ear is covered. Tape or tie the bandage in place. Step 4: Transport the dog immediately to the veterinarian. |
ohhh found another site that suggests styptic powder... |
He is :dogzzz: on my legs. :) Would have went to the ER, but his vet said no need. Couldn't clean it because it just started bleeding again. Might at up at vet tomorrow though. Can't give anything to stop the coagulation, but maybe Tramadol. Should see if I brought some with me for E. Just don't know how much that would help a skin-type issue. Cant' really hurt though. |
Poor sweet Rylee! I'm sure his little ear is hurting him - those pictures look painful. :( I will be thinking of him. Hope he is feeling better soon. |
Poor guy :( Yeah, chews can definitely make dogs defensive and aggressive. Hopefully it heals up quickly, and it looks like his hair will cover it completely. Keep us updated. |
I don't have any, darn it. :( It stopped though. They don't even have gauze here. Have to get some tmw. morning. I guess gauze goes in their travel bag from now on -- and e-collars. |

Definitely would give him Tramadol. Poor baby...it has to hurt. But then, if he is sleeping, maybe not. |
He's up now. Scared to make it bleed again, but I guess I'll clean it. He is on antibios already, but not sure they are going to cover this (cefpodoxime). I'll talk to the vet in the morning again. Didn't want to interrupt her Friday night anymore than I already had to. Think I woke the poor girl up. Thankfully they are both current on rabies (and to whoever reading this, this is why your dogs should ALWAYS be current on rabies). He's been kissing my through it all. Big dogs just won't be his thing. |
Yeah well cephalosporin (spell check..haha) drugs are good for skin...so I suppose he is covered. That's a good thing. :) |
What a sweetheart that he has been giving you kisses. I pray you can clean his ear and not have it start bleeding again. You probably are not going to get much sleep tonight. :( |
Do you have a tea bag? I'm not kidding. Black tea (not chamomile) bags help stop bleeding. |
Hmm, maybe they have one. Gave him Tramadol and some dinner. He is happily resting on my back as I lay on my stomach. Silly boy. Now to clean it. |
