Jackson's 'Diagnosis' I decided to open a new thread because I wanted a fresh clean start. For all those curious, I just talked to the vet. His cPL test came back totally normal range. So they are not sure why his lipase levels are still slightly elevated but the vet said it's not completely abnormal. And that she does believe it was pancreatitis but now it may just be a different GI issue like IBS or something else, and he may just have a sensitive stomach. She told me to keep him on the E/N for another 3-4 weeks and then slowly very gradually switch to a different low fat food. She said she'd stay away from senior foods since he's still so young and active. She told me that protein is not much of a concern but moreso fat levels. She also explained fiber to me. She even mentioned something about a food allergy and told me that a lot of dogs can be allergic to chicken. So she said I can try giving him a few little pieces of plain chicken breast since it's low in fat but if he gets loose stool after eating it, then it will be a no no. She told me this by herself, I didn't even specifically ask her about chicken. She said if by chance he eats something dropped on the floor by accident, don't stress too much, just watch for signs of vomiting or diarrhea. I didn't get a chance to ask her about chews, we talked about all this stuff and I just forgot and didn't wanna keep her too long on the phone. But no big deal... I'm not gonna worry about it yet or give him anything. I'm gonna keep him on the E/N for the next 3-4 weeks like she said and then find something comparable to switch him to. 107barney was nice enough to send me some RC Gastrointestinal low fat kibble. So we will just take it day by day from here. I'm really grateful for everyone that contributed in helping Jackson and myself out and will continue to take all of your advice and opinions into my head and I will always continue to do what is best for Jackson. |
Sorry to hear about Jackson recently being sick. Im glad he's on the mend now and hopefully his levels will go down and stay normal. |
Very, very happy to hear that the cPL came back normal! :) |
That's great news and how kind of Barney (Cathy) to send you some special food. So Jackson isn’t displaying any type of pain, vomiting, or diarrhea now? It sounds like this food is helping his pancreas recover. |
Hoping that Jackson is better soon! |
Feel better soon Jackson!! |
Was following the other tread. Good to hear that cPL test was normal. |
Good to hear! :) |
I'm so glad Jackson is feeling better. :) |
So happy to hear your little one is better. As I wrote in your other thread, I had my Harley at different vets and finally took him to Texas A&M where they ran every test imaginable - including ultrasound, etc. They coud not ever find what was causing his problems, but I can tell you I was so afraid of losing him because each time he had a bout, it became worse and worse. Anyway, they put him on his prescription food, some antibiotics, Vitamin B and Tylan capsules. We have stopped the antibiotics and Vitamin B, but give the Tylan every night and prescription food. They also said do not give him any other food, not even one bite, because it could start the cycle all over again. They also told me we may never know what caused his problems...but only know how to treat them symptomatically. That's what we have done and it has worked beautifully with him. Good luck with your baby...I know how worrisome and frustrating it can be. |
Glad to hear Jackson is continuing to improve. :) |
Good news about Jackson, keeping you in prayers. |
