| Ginger had something similar (HGE) and was prescribed some probiotics (capsules) that I sprinkled over her food for 30 days. It was to put the good bacteria back in and regulate things. She was also given antibiotics. She has recoverd 100%. Ginger did eat a bland food diet for about 10 days too. I hope Betty Boop bounces back quickly! Praying for you both!

She just turned 2 and it has happened 3 to 4 times, I believe. I would have to look back at her notes. She last got this in January of this year. She is just lying around with watering eyes and not feeling well. She scarfed down a good bland breakfast of boiled chicken and rice and has kept it down today. I gave her the PeptoBismol and antibiotic. Do you think Reglan is hard on them? She didn't move all night long last night except to pee once. This is not like her. I'm going to call the vet this afternoon and report in. Thanks for your input.

I'm not really sure what HGE is, but I'll research it and see if she fits the description. I'm so glad Ginger recovered 100%!

| My Cricket had quite a few bouts of enteritis until her vet put her on a canned I/D diet. He said a lot of yorkies have sensitive tummies and need to be on a prescription GI diet. This really helped keep down the bouts.

| What food is she eating? What treats and chews? 3-4 bouts of this in just a couple years sounds like a concern. I have never had a problem with Reglan making Ellie lethargic, but that is a very common side effect. I wouldn't be surprised. But I'd also wonder if she is lethargic from whatever is going on... Have you talked to your vet about more extensive testing?

I am so sorry to hear Betty Boop is not feeling well. Rosie has had numerous problems like this. She was diagnosed with IBS. She too is on the canned and dry I/D diet. It does seem to help also.

Just Google "Hemorrhagic GastroEnteritis (HGE) in dogs". There is tons of info. When I did my research, yorkies were in the top 4 as common breeds. I had never heard of it before either. The blood in the poop was from her intestines being irritated and the sides were sloughing (is that a word?) off. The blood was jelly like. TMI - sorry!

She has been eating Precise Lamb & Rice that the vet sells. She really likes it. We took her off chicken last year to see if that was causing her itching. Couldn't really determine that was the cause, though. Right now, she is only eating chicken & rice. She doesn't get any chews. The only snacks she gets is occasional apple, banana and seedless watermelon. I saw something that looked like a small, soft white watermelon seed in her poop. Could have been anything, though. She is always making her rounds around the house. She had her 2 year wellness bloodwork done last week and it came back good. Are there any other tests you can think of that would be helpful for me to ask the vet about?

That's OK because that is how I described it to the vet. It was bright red and jelly-like, but not a lot of it. I might ask the vet about the I/D food or just something that is for sensitive tummies.

| First, I see I mistyped before. Lethargy is a common side effect to drugs in general. I don't know about Reglan in particular. I would do some basic blood work WHILE she is in the middle of an episode to see if anything looks off. This way you'll know if it is likely HGE, pancreas, infection, etc. The high lipase from a few days ago is in the back of my mind too. Wouldn't hurt to do the cPL. I'd ask the vet what their thoughts are on going a bit farther with testing to see if this can be prevented in the future.
