Aw! Im so sorry for you both! They are our kids ya know it? We are also guilty of giving Rascal things to eat that we probably shouldnt. They makes me think of months ago when he started throwing up for no reason..like 8 times one after the other it seemed like. It was also slimmy..flem. But that was right before bed and the next morning he was fine and hasnt done it since. when i became a member, your video of Jackson was the very first one i watched and was so amazed at his talent! You both have my prayers!! GET WELL BUDDY!! |

Brit, I am so sorry Jackson wasn't feeling well! I kind of skipped a few pages of posts to get to the end to see if he was alright! So glad to hear you got a diagnosis and he is home and doing well. Will send prayers that he continues to heal fully and be back to being Jackson! Hugs from me and my crew |

He prob had a little over 1/4 cup today of kibble (periodically, not all at once) and a few tiny scoops of canned just to give him his pills. He is done w/ food for the day. Do you think that's too much for a 16.4lb dog? |
Brit, Glad Jackson is on the mends. Just take things slowly and hopefully things won't be too overwhelming. |

Not to get off topic. But I knew Jackson was a teapot. But I had no idea he was 16.4lbs. That's awesome! |
Brit, I'm so glad Jackson's feeling better! You've gotten some great advice and you're doing terrific with Jackson. Just take things slow and easy, don't let him con you into letting him do too much too soon. ;) |

Yesterday I put 1/4 in his bowl and he nibbled from 10am-3pm ish and finished it all slowly. Plus he got a few bits of canned food later when giving him his pills. He still has not pooped since I brought him home Monday night and it was diarrhea then (to be expected). One of the meds have a side effect of constipation tho. So I'm not sure if I should be worried about the lack of poop -- since he hasn't been exercising or eating like usual, maybe that's another reason. We have an appointment for 3:30 tomorrow for a re-check. Pray everything goes well. |
:xfingers: That all goes well at your appointment. |

Wouldn't be concerned about the lack of pooping. He cleaned himself out the other day with all that vomiting and his system is totally of of whack. If he is trying to go and can't, then I'd call the vet immediately. It might take a couple more days... |
I'm happy to read the Jackson is doing much better and is at home with you. Just take things slow with him since he's been through so much in the past week. Think of his as a little kids after not feeling well. They too want to eat, run and play pushing it to the limit if allowed. Then they have a relapse and are back laying around not feeling well. You are in control of his health and need to follow what the doctor ordered for his own good~no matter how much he pouts. :( He's been through a lot and you are there to ensure he continues to recuperate slowly. |

We messed up one pill this morning... I feel like I shoved it ALL the way back in his throat and he still manages to spit it up. Well the one pill was completely turned to powder on my fingers, by the time we were done with it, he didn't get ANY of it. So I had to use another pill so I'm gonna have to tell the vet we are lacking one pill. The canned food worked like a charm yesterday but today he didn't seem to care. Got the first two down easier though! |
Some of them might be able to be crushed. Would he accept that better if mixed with canned? Ellie likes to do that too. And I hate putting my finger so far back, but that's life I suppose. Some of the pills were a little big for her and she hates being pilled anyway, so what I started doing was coating them in a very thin layer of some type of wet food she could have (you could do the canned) and putting it back there that way. Slides down easier... |
ETA: Metroclopramide and Metronidazole come in liquid form. If you get desperate for an alternative, that might work for him. |
We uses the greenies pill pockets....but I don't know if Jackson could have them? |
Oh my goodness! I've been having computer issues and all missed this. I knew Jackson wasn't feeling well, but I didn't know he was diagnosed with pancreatitis. I'm so glad to hear Jackson is home, and you are adjusting as well as you can at this point! Just take everything slow, and I have no doubts you'll find a food that works well for Jackson that you can live with. As far as training, you could always train him with pieces of the kibble you decide upon. I'm not sure if even veggies and fruits will be no-nos now, but, if not, Rory and Lane love frozen green beans for treats, along with other raw veggies and fruits (I know you know all the ones that are toxic to pups). Costco has giant bags of organic frozen green beans that can be cooked if you prefer. Maybe you can find something like that will work. I've also heard of people baking the dog food into treats, etc, so where there is a will there is a way - no way you will have to stop training Jackson - I know how much you both enjoy it! It's so hot out right now it's probably good that he needs to take it easy for a few days. :) I hope he has a great recheck, and you can discuss some of your concerns with the vet! |
I learned from Crystal not to panic about reduction of pooping unless there are signs of distress. :) Max's regular 2x per day was thrown way off when I had to restrict his activity. Sending prayers for a good progress report from the doc tomorrow. |
Here's a tip when it comes to medication, hide it in a piece of american cheese. Works like a charm! Trust me, Austin was not a happy camper when I would make him take his meds at one point. So since he loves cheese and he's a smarty pants, he knew I hid it in the cheese but he couldn't resist. lol Good Luck! |

He's going to be able to have plain boiled chicken (per the vet) soon, just not yet while we are resting his tummy, so I am confident that will work. He's never touched fruits and veggies but I will keep trying. Since he likes this RX wet food, I am sure I can do something with it to make it into a "treat". Quote:
Watch now, I'm going to one of the freaks at the vet for every little thing. I guess it's not a bad thing... This vets office has called me every day to check on Jackson. I think that is so awesome. I really am loving the staff here. It's a fairly new facility, I think it's been there for maybe 2yrs, but it even looks super nice from the outside. |
Btw, he was scratching a lot yesterday. Way more than often. You don't think it could possibly be the food? He's never eaten a food with corn/rice and barely anything with grains period except a few different treats in his lifetime... I really don't think he's allergic but I was just wondering. It seemed odd to me that he kept stopping to scratch (no collar/harness was on either, but he never scratches at those anyways). |

You can make treats out of his food. I slice the food and then cut pie shaped wedges in the slices. Put them on a baking sheet with parchment paper (prevents sticking) and bake in a 350 degree oven for 37 minutes. I make them all of the time with the R/D |
Oh my gosh! Sorry I missed this post. I hope he feels better soon! Do you know how he got pancreatitis? |

I am sure it was from too much human food. Friday night he had a LOT of junk and I'm pretty sure that it triggered it. But he's consumed a lot of not-so-good human foods throughout this whole 2 1/2 years of life, lol. I think maybe his body just couldn't handle it anymore. |
Btw, he did do a poopie today! It was half solid/half soft, but no diarrhea! |
