I hope you find a good home for your Lab. I can only imagine your shock and pain right now.

I hope your children can get past this terrible accident as well.

I had a horrible night. I am fighting a cold and I woke up all night reliving this in my mind. Then this morning I had to go into my kitchen and not see Casper greeting me with his happy self as he did every morning. This just sucks!!!!! I can't even stand to look at my other dog. Never in my life have I given away a pet. I see them as part of the family and you just don't do that. I am heartbroken over all of this and feel so sick.

Update on Lady
 
Hello,

Just to let you know. I took Lady to the vet today to get her Rabies 3 yr shot. They had a cat on the counter which Lady wasn't phased by at all. Many other dogs and cats came in the waiting room and Lady didn't growl or try to attack them. The Vet said that Lady did not at all appear to be an aggressive dog. He said that animals have instincts and that they sense when another animal is getting weaker and weaker. He says what Lady did was a natural animal instinct. I have to say, Casper the past few weeks had been coughing much worse than normal. I was actually afraid I would find him dead one morning. My husband also had expected Casper to die in the next month or two. The vet also said if Casper died on his own it would have been a painful death. In no way peaceful. He said at least this way it was quick. I am so sad for Casper, but I also feel sad for Lady and I feel that sometimes we just don't understand things like this since we are not animals. Knowing Lady as we do, is why this shocked us so. I just do not think my dog would hurt anyone. If she would, she certainatly wouldn't have allowed so many strangers over the years come into our yard to feed her when we were on vacation. And she wouldn't have gotten along so well with Casper for 3 years. She loves us and loves my kids. I think we should keep her. It now is up to my husband.

I am glad your vet was able to make some sense out of this situation. It does make a big difference with one dog being ill...

So sorry Casper had such a traumatic end. If you feel safe to keep Lady, I hope you will. I am sure she is confused why things have changed toward her. I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive her. It is not always easy. I hope you and your family will find some peace soon.

I used to raise and train Labs. I rarely saw them get aggressive with other dogs even when food was involved. I am very sorry this happened. I do not agree with the others. I think you should place Lady with a Lab rescue. She did kill Casper. Lady should not be allowed around small animals or children. It breaks my heart to say this, but if she were my dog I would have her put down. I do not think this was an accident. The licking you talked about, is often dominate aggression.

No offense but I completely disagree with this statement......put her down?! If you are not comfortable with her being around your children then I would take her to a NO KILL shelter who can evaluate her and find her a good home because she does not deserve to be put down!!!! :(

I am so sorry for what happened to you and so sorry for your loss, it is so tragic and not understanding how or why it happened makes it even more difficult. I hope you can come to a decision and once you figure out what to do I hope you can find some peace with what happened. Again, I am soo sorry for your loss and all you have been through..it breaks my heart! Take care!

Oh yes. We would never get rid of Molly. She doesn't go out back, She is indoor and now I have been at my moms for a couple of nights, she came with us. And Lady does not come in the house or is ever with Molly. She sees her through the slider and I have shown her to her through window screen and Lady doesn't try to do anything. I just wanted her to know Molly is the inside family dog.

Thank you! If we do decide to give her away, I would NEVER give her to a place that would have her killed. No way! I did find a Cops wife who said she would take Lady and they would make her a dope dog. She would ride with a cop all day and be a K-9 dog. She would come home at night and live on her 2 and 1/2 acres in LaQuinta with her other 6 dogs. She knows two K-9 trainers and she does not think Lady is a terrible dog.

Thank you. ♥ I am still so very sad about Casper. I feel a lot of guilt and we should have put him in the garage and laundry room the second we noticed them starting to not get along. I really just thought they were playing too rough. I feel so very bad about that.
