Donating YT 500 Club Member | I just got home from the E.R. Vet. He things it is a bug. She did have a fever of 103 but he considered it low grade. I am watching her close if anything changes. They did sub-q fluids, and a Cerenia injection for nausea. They gave me amoxicillin and Metronidazole. They gave her the first dose of both and sent us home. She did vomit on our way home, a small amount and it was yellow. I am thinking she is hungry but the vet does not want me to feed anything to her right now. When I got home she then had more watery diaherra. I called the ER vet right back and he said the shot can take a couple hours to get in her system and to watch her closely and if she throws up anymore we will be on our way back. We also were advised to do the chicken and rice diet and will start that in the a.m. Thankyou for your thoughts and prayers. I have a feeling its going to be a long night.

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Taycie had a very hard and long night. All night long she kept trying to go poop and it was just watery diaherra. I called the E.R. vet back at 3:30 am because I started to see tiny amounts of blood. I have never been so panicky in my entire life. The vet told me to keep watching her because the blood I was seeing was more the likely some blood vessels that were popped because she was straining so much to poop. As far as meds goes he said it can take 24 hours before you see them start taking effect, But, it there is at all any increase in the blood bring her back in. After I got off the phone, I just started to cry.. I was so emotional. It is so hard to see your baby so ill. I couldn't sleep.. so I wrapped her up in her blankets and put some chicken and rice on the stove for the a.m. She had zero appetite.. We finally fell asleep.. I woke up at 7 and she was snuggled right next to me. I took her outside and she just pottied and we came right back in. She actually seems like we are making a turn around the corner... She DID have an appetite which I was so happy to see! I just offered her a Tablespoon of Chicken and rice to see how she will handle it. I am giving her small amounts through out the day. She still has yet to drink anything.. Would it be ok if I offered her some pedialyte through out the day?... The vet called me at 7:07 to recheck on Taycie and told me to keep doing what I am doing. I just have to say, Taycie and I can truly feel your thoughts and prayers. I am so thankful for so many wonderful people her on YT. I will keep you posted through out the day as things progress. She gets more meds at 10am.. So hopefully with a little something in her belly and some meds things continually get better.

| I'm sorry Taycie and you had a rough night and I hope that as today progresses she'll improve with the medications. If she was given subcutaneous fluids, then giving her pedialyte is not necessary. You don't want to overdue it on fluids. Did the vet say what could have caused this bug? Did they run bloodwork while you were there?

As far as what he thinks caused this, the vet thinks its a bug. He didn't tell to me run bloodwork.. I did tell him however.. that we just did blood work about 3 weeks ago and everything came back normal. My reg. vet told me, her kidney levels looked great.. she even said, You have one healthy dog. While I was there I did ask about Pancreatitis. He didn't think she had it. He said when I am feeling in her stomach most dogs would either tense up or even cry in pain. Taycie did not do this at all. And he said, there usually is alot more vomit. Taycie only threw up once and that was on our way home from the vet. She did try however on our way but nothing came out.

| My girls had this last year. My vet actually used acupuncture with Zoe and I'm telling you, she was so sick! On the ride to the vet, her crate was filled with vomit and diarhea, I really wasn't sure which and she was just a mess. The vet gave her subq fluids even though she wasn't really dehydrated yet and he gave her some anti naseau meds and the b-12 with acupuncture and by the time I got home from the vet, she was visibly feeling better and back to eating that evening. I am sometimes skeptical about acupuncture and those alternative medicines but I'm telling you... my vet made a believer out of me! Hope your baby is all better soon! |
