Oh I am so sorry your are going through this. I lost my Brody to kidney failure. With Brody it happen very quickly. With Brody the vet said to do sub-q fluids at home 2 times a day for 3 weeks. We did but his numbers continued to go up. Then the vet wanted too hospitalized him for 2 nights to see if the could recharge them, they also put him on k/d food. and a appetite simulate.Did you vet mentioned doing the fluilds at home? My thoughts and prayers are with you. |
Yes she mentioned it this evening. She said that if they could get Pixie stable I would have to get her the fluids either every day or every other day, change her diet, and give supplements to help her kidneys. She did not go into alot of details because they are more interested in getting her numbers down right now. They are saying so much so fast and I feel like they are speaking a different language. I am sorry to hear about your baby. I didnt realize how many lives are lost from kidney disease until now. |

Pixie Update 6/30/2011 We just got back from visiting with Pixie. They had put a cath tube in her neck and a feeding tube through her nose. She was just waking up and was not active at all. She looked so sad. It broke my heart to see her like that. The vet said that her numbers had came down a small bit today, but not much. She will drink water but will not eat the food they are trying to feed her. Hills ID, they tried to feed her Hills AD and she ate it, but then threw it up. They are hoping that if they can get some food in her stomach through the feeding tube it may help her to want to eat. They also are going to start more aggressive fluids. They said she is losing calcium, but do not know where it is going. They said so much my head is spinning. I can not understand how she could have got so sick so fast. I am still in shock! We are going back tomorrow evening to see her if she is still stable. Please keep her in your prayers, because we need a Miracle |

I am so sorry for both you and Pixie! When you go to visit her can you bring an old smelly tshirt so she could have you scent to comfort her? I did that with Buster when he was hospitalized. Would Pixie eat if you fed her by hand? Also if you have a small recorder you might want to record the next call or use your answering machine to record it. I know you get so numb processing the information you sometimes miss things the vet's tell you. Pixie and you are in our prayers and we are sending healing light and thoughts to your sweet baby. |

Pixie Update 7-1-2011 Thank You all for your Prayers and for your kind words. We went and seen Pixie tonight. I wish I had better news to share. She isnt any better. She is so sick, and I feel guilty for wanting to hang on. Her numbers came down a few points overnight, but not much at all. They started giving her a Phortise (spelling) binder last night. She has taken two doses. She will not eat, but will get up and drink water. They are feeding her a little through the feeding tube, but because her Phosprase (spelling) is so high they are afraid to feed her too much or give her calicum until it goes down. I know in my heart that if she doesnt show improvement very soon it is time to say goodbye, but I dont know if I can. This is so hard, and it will be a year on July 6th that we lost Tenci. My heart is shattered. Pixie is so young and so sweet. It doesnt seem fair! |
So sorry to hear about your Pixie. :( I\'m glad you were able to get her to UT. They have some good people there. Which Dr. are you seeing? |
