Rushed Bambi to the vet today Bambi has had runny poop on and off for about a week now. i thought it was from her Corona Virus shot she got 10 days ago. I called the vet and told him that 3 days after getting the shot she started having some runny poop. He said to give her KO and plain yogurt so I tried it and it seemed to be helping. Plus I started her on boiled chicken and rice. Last evening through this morning she seems better (has never lost her energy) So I was shocked when dd called me at work around 10:30 saying Bambi had stuff coming from both ends and she seen some blood in the pooh. So I rushed home and got her in at Garrett's vet instead. They tested her for Parvo & worms....both were negative, so they think it might be that she ate some bunny dropping from the yard. She got 2 shots (Famotidine & Anzemet) & an antibiotic (Metronidazole) to come home with. She's resting now & no yuckies in the last 2 hours. Hoping they work cause the vet said we'd have to do blood work and xrays next. I'm kicking myself for listened to her vet who's very nice but a very old gentleman. I told Breny about it last week and she said her vet said no to KO but it was helping so I kept it up. Next time I'll listen and I've got a different vet now!!!!!! They were so good with Bambi and me. The vet was really sweet she said she got the smallest needles they had to give Bambi her shot with so it wouldn't hurt as bad. She said she wanted to try this route first to see if Bambi recovers before drawing blood from her small self. If she doesn't improve, I'll take her back for blood work and xrays. She weighed in at 2.12lbs today (she was 2.09 on 6/18) the weights were at different vets, but both digital scales so I think they are pretty accurate right? And good with me because though they squeezed me in at the last minute I still went a little momma bear on the vet tech...she came in with white fur all over her shirt (so I knew she had other dog germs on her) and she wanted to take Bambi to the back to get the fecal sample. I explained that I was being overly germ-a-phobic with what's around her and didn't want her taking Bambi back there around the other dogs and said I'd hold her and not interfer with her doing what is needed to get pooh (LOL) she was like....ahhhhh let me ask if that's ok. They were very accommodating to my wishes on that. I found myself contemplating what I'd do if she had Parvo and had to stay...I was picturing me with a cot on the vet's floor by her cage :D Anyone else ever have this happen? I never ever have her out walking in public places (she's always inside her carrier) and I never let others outside our home pet her. And she only gets to run in our back yard that is fenced in and no other dogs get in there but mine. I'm just so thrilled that it's not parvo!!!!!!!!! |
Aww Gennie!! I'm so happy for you that Bambi didn't have parvo!! I will pray that she recovers fast! This never happened to me, but I can imagine your scare! I'm glad that Bambi is okay now! LOL you are one great mommy! ;) |
I don't think I've ever vaccinated for corona virus as it's a non core and only associated with mild disease and only in dogs under 6 weeks of age. The AAHA states there is no demonstrated value in this vaccine. Good you dropped the old vet. Hope Bambi feels better soon. |
So happy it's not parvo!! I just went 11 days in the vet with a parvo puppy (my 1 pound little guy) and it was horrible. Hope they find out what's wrong and get her well soon. |
My biewer had that recently. Tested and everything for parvo. Negative!! They had her on albon. She is doing better. The fecal test said she had a little viruse but she's better now. I'm thinking its not girl season this year..lol |

***Update*** Bambi woke up half an hour ago, ate a little food but drank a lot of water and has kept it down! She wanted Bijou to play with her but I had to say no to that and have her locked in the office with me right now. She's sleeping again so I'll get her up in half an hour and give her the antibiotic. Thanks for all the well wishes!!! It breaks my heart to see her feeling bad. |
Just a couple of weeks ago, Ginger came down with the runny poop, vomited once and then it turned in to bloody poop. I was terrified!!! She was diagonosed with HGE. They ran all the tests and bloodwork. Google HGE in dogs and there is tons of info. It's bascially an infection in the intestines. They don't know what causes it either. They gave her meds for the diaherra and vomiting and anitbotics to fight the HGE infection. She is doing GREAt and is back to normal. She is still on the antibotics until they run out and they gave her a pill to sprinkle on her food each night that puts the good bacteria back in to her intestines. Like the stuff in yogurt - LOL! The thing with HGE is that if caught early it's treatable. With these little ones, its so, so important to get them to the vet early. It makes all the difference. Good thing you took her in when you did!!!!! I hope your baby gets back to feeling better soon! Also wanted to add : Yorkies are listed as one of the breeds that are more likely to get it. |

Hmmmm, since it is mixed maybe we are giving it to them and not knowing it. I will try to find Rosie's paperwork and look and see. If it is the 3 in one I will let you know. :) |
