Teddy *almost* ate an almond :(
 
I checked and it's not on the list for poisonous foods here...but other sites indicate that it is not advised that dogs eat them. I repeat Teddy did NOT ingest it...he ran out when I open the gates found an almond and put in his mouth but I quickly removed it in FULL. I was so frightened....still am but would still like to know for future reference if anyone here knows about almonds and dogs. :(

Yeah those are the lists I saw that had almonds on it...but then I read elsewhere that the scariest one is macademia nuts...either way I wouldn't let him eat any kind of nut I was just trying to research what about the nut is so bad for dogs. This actually makes me feel good that I'm sllergic to nuts and they don't come in my home.

Glad I found this, had no idea dogs had issues with them too.

They weren't even mine :( My SO other was the one who eats them and carelessly left one on the floor. :mad: I am still angry.

:mad: Sounds like something my husband would do. My Dad left out a thing of Dean's French Onion one day and ran to the bathroom (got sick) and came out to find my Mom's Cairn standing on the sofa with her head in the french onion dip. My Mom callled me to tell me about it and I informed her that onions are poisonous to dogs and she paniced. Needless to say, my forgetful father doesn't leave stuff around anymore either.

I wish we had some way of knowing how much a dog has to ingest before it becomes toxic. There's no way to know if 1 almond would kill them, or if it takes several handfuls. That would be so useful to know, for all of the toxic foods.

I read that sometimes the problem is toxic foods in small amounts are not a huge problem, but dogs are so attracted to these foods that they tend to ingest way more than they should. I heard that if a dog eats one M&M it won't kill him, but after eating one, if a bowl of them is available, they will consume the bowl and be in big trouble.

I think there's a poison control number for pets. They would probably know what and how much is too much, and when I called poison control for people they were full of good info and were more than happy to talk about it. They should put this info on the packaging.
