Faith hurt her back I feel so bad. My little Faith hurt her back and yesterday was not a good day for her. First Libby took a flying leap and landed right on top of Faith. Faith let out a scream. Then Faith, who always waits for me to carry her out of the car, jumped out of the pick up onto our cement driveway. She seemed okay after those incidents, but this morning she seemed to be limping and acting strange, hiding away in the kennel or behind a table in the livingroom and shaking. My vet was in surgery all day so I took her to another. She is on prednisone, but he didn't want to give her a pain killer because she is so small. I am to keep her quiet and no jumping for 2 weeks. He said he could refer me to the U of Minnesota, but Friday my hubby has to have back surgery and next week have hernia surgery, so it is not a good time for me to be up and leaving. I will be very careful with her, as I saw what happened with my daughter's yorkie when they didn't keep him contained with his back injury. He ended up with paralysis and a long road to recovery. If I can't be holding Faith, she will be in the kennel, where she is right now. I just feel so bad. |
Oh no Connie!! I hope Faith will be ok. I swear even as careful as we can be these little buggers can get hurt and us right there. Sending prayers for Faith and for your DH for his surgeries. Boy when it rains it pours,doesn't it.:( |
I'm sorry. :( Ellie is in the same boat and it's not fun. Were xrays done? Are they saying it's likely a disc issue? If you can't go to a specialist right now, I would suggest at least talking with your regular vet about it. Back injuries like this are incredibly painful. The steroi will hopefully take the inflammation down, but usually pain drugs are given also. A steroid just is usually not enough. Ellie takes a massive dose of Tramadol and Gabapentin as needed. |

Wow I feel bad about your pup, but Lord a mercy, you have got a full plate!! Best wishes for your survival thru this next month. My DH had back surgery a year and a half ago and it was no picnic for anyone. |

Thank you everyone for your sweet comments. I just got off the phone with my vet. I was concerned that she is in a lot of pain because she keeps shaking. He is heading into the clinic and I will be able to pick up some pain meds in about 15 minutes. I took Faith out to see if she could go potty, but she just looked up at me waiting for me to pick her up. I'm really shook over this. I got her a cat crate and put a soft bed in it for her. She looks so sad. Breaks my heart! |
Aww, good to hear that your vet will give the right meds. They really do have to have it with back issues. Yup, the shaking is probably pain. While you're there, you could ask what he/she thinks about heat (heating pad, SnuggleSafe) for the pain. Just try to avoid everything that can stress her bones. Even baths and such can irritate the spine more. |

Thanks everyone! Faith is doing well this morning. She isn't shaking, so I think the meds are helping. It's so hard to keep her confined when I can't be holding her, but I know it's for the best. One day at a time! Thanks for your prayer and concern! |

Faith sure isn\'t walking worth a darn. I only put her down to go potty and she isn\'t even doing that, but just stands there. The few steps she\'s taken are very wobbly. Poor baby. I can\'t wait till she gets better. She is sleeping on my lap right now. Wish I could just hold her all day! |
