My Lucy keeps throwing up and won't eat!! My yorkie Lucy is 3 years old but I have only had her since last October. She has been very healthy since we got her, ate well, very active, but the last few weeks she has had some issues. A couple of weeks ago she was shaking uncontrollably for two days so on the second day I took her to the Vet, she had 103 temp and her throat was really red and inflamed so the Vet gave her a couple of shots and an antibiotic to take for 10 days (which she finished last week). She seemed fine after that for a few days but she did start to become a finicky eater, while her throat was sore I gave her soft canned food with her dry dog food and she ate that fine a few times but the last two days she hasn't eaten hardly at all. Today she has not eaten any food at all other than a couple of small treats and one small rawhide and she had thrown up all of it, she has thrown up 6 times already today. She is drinking water and urinating but no poop today (but she hasn't eaten much). I am not sure what is going on, I just thought she was being finicky but now with her throwing up I am really concerned. She seems to have energy (but not her usual) we went for a short walk and about half way she looked up and wanted me to carry her (which is unlike her). I plan on taking her to the Vet again on Monday if she is not better. Since she is drinking water I know she won't get dehydrated but if she is eating and throwing up I don't want her to have low blood sugar....HELP....any ideas or suggestions for me would be greatly appreciated!! |
I'm sorry your girl is sick. She may be drinking water, but with all of the vomiting, she can easily become dehydrated, and possibly hypoglycemic. The water will probably make her want to vomit more. I would take her to an emergency vet today. Rawhides can cause blockages. |
I agree, she needs to be seen today! I would not wait until Monday. This could be minor, but also could be major such as pancreatitis or an intestinal blockage. I would take her to an emergency clinic! |
Take her to the er vet. I had a similar incident with Rosie in January. With her throwing up 6 times she needs to be seen. |
I agree with everyone else. That is a lot of throwing up. She needs to see a vet asap. |
Throwing up alot especially in hot weather can be extremely dangerous. Please go to a vet asap. Also, try bully sticks instead of rawhides, rawhides can cause alot of issues. please keep us updated. |
I'm sorry to her that your baby girl is sick. if i were you i would take her to the vet and see if she's sick. She also may not be getting enough water and is dehydrated. I'm very sorry and hope she gets better soon. :getwellso |
Nothing I can add that has not been suggested. BEst of luck. |
Definitely needs to been seen ASAP. I will be thinking of your baby. Please keep us posted. |
Still not eating.. Thanks for all the replies. I do agree she needs to be seen and I am looking into an emergency vet clinic in this area (we just moved a few months ago). I tried to give her a small piece of bread and she even rejected that so she is not feeling good. I gave her some pepto a couple of days ago when she seemed to have some stomach upset (she was not puking then) and that seemed to help but I don't want to do that again...any ideas on pepto and does anyone have any other suggestions to make her comfortable until I can get her over there??!! :aimeeyork |
I would not give any medication/remedy without knowing what the problem is. There are many things that could be causing Lucy's illness. With that much vomiting, I would withhold food and give her system a rest. How much does she weigh? Are her gums pink and moist? Are her inner ears hot to the touch? These little ones can go down fast. I strongly recommend getting her to a 24-hour vet. |
I agree. She really needs to go now. Google vets in your area and get to an er vet asap. Also, I don't know about this. Maybe someone with more knowledge can jump in. But I think after throwing up that many times you may want to give her some nutracal. Can someone tell if this is good to do at this point? |
She has to be seen tonight. Not wanting to eat much for two days is bad enough. Vomiting 6+ times and lethargy too - this should not wait. No drugs until after the vet sees her. Withhold food for now (because her stomach needs a rest and because on the off chance it's a blockage, that isn't going to help the surgeon any). There is almost always an ER vet withing a couple hours. Hopefully you have found one and are on your way. |
