Update Thanks for the advice. I just spoke to an emergency vet and he suggested the same thing, no food for 12 hours and to let her lick on an ice cube so that is what she is doing right now. He suggested that if she becomes less active or more depressed to call back and he will meet me right away but so far she licked quite a bit of the ice cube and is now resting on my husbands lap. Lucy is approx 6.5 pounds Her gums are pink and seem to be moist Her ears are not warm at all I have tried posting three times but it will not show up!!:aimeeyork |

Update Hi all! Just got back from the emergency vet visit and Lucy is going to be okay. She has an irritated stomach and he gave her a shot of B12 and also two other shots;one for the irritation and another was penicillin. He said she has no signs of pancreatitis or anything else serious. We are to give her no food tonight and tomorrow only give her very small amounts. Thank you all for your advice and I know I will be able to sleep a little better now, maybe with only one eye open and not both! She is very tired now from the stress of going to the Dr and getting shots but I think she will be alright! :aimeeyork:thumbup::) |
I am very happy to read your update! Sending best wishes for Lucy that she feels better soon. Definitely start with a very small amount of food and make sure she keeps it down for an hour or two. Bland food would be best, maybe a little plain boiled chicken breast and white rice. Very small amounts, never exceed the equivalent measurement of what she would eat in kibble. In this case, you want to feed less. Good night! |
Thanks Thank you, I will probably do the boiled chicken and rice and yes very small amounts. Any other recommendations for bland food that is good for her? I feed her Nutro for small adult dogs and she liked it a lot when I got it but now I wonder if I will have to change since she is becoming more finicky with her eating. *Random question but how do you put a picture on the side of the reply? I just signed up for this today and I am slowly learning how to work this site. Thanks again!! :) |
That is outstanding. Now, you too can feel better. |
I'd go ahead and switch to another food when she is done with chicken and rice. Google Nutro. That could be part of the problem. Has she been pooping? Did the vet do bloodwork and xrays? |
I agree I see Nutro is not a good choice for Lucy now. Funny thing is my old vet recommended it (they didn't sell it) so I thought it would be best for her....I guess that is not the case so I will be slowly switching her to something else. In the meantime I am boiling some chicken-don't have any rice-and I will see if she will eat that. I will get some rice later today. I also need to figure out what new food would be best for her so I have a lot to do today!! Thanks again for everyone's advice and support-I am so happy I found this site!! :D |
I hope Lucy will be feeling much better today.:) |
I am so glad Lucy is going to be fine. I know Wellness makes plain dog food for dogs with sensitive stomachs. My dog and my parents dog will eat it when they aren't feeling well. Normally they eat Wellness Super 5 for small breeds, but as I said, Wellness makes a plain dog food, too. |

Thank you again... Lucy is feeling much better :cheer: I boiled a chicken breast and I gave her a very small helping this morning and she has kept that down for several hours so I gave her another small helping and I am hoping that will stay down too. Weird thing is I fed it to her by hand the first time and the second time I put it in her bowl and she acted like she was afraid to go up to her bowl and eat it so I had to put a few pieces by the bowl on the floor and she slowly went up to it so I think that she thinks the food was making her sick and she is pretty smart so it's time for a change for sure!! She isn't 100% herself yet but I think as she eats more she will get a little more energy back and get to feeling great again! I am sooo happy I found this site and I again thank all of you for the support and advice!! :bananna::woohoo::yorkiej::ghug::mademyday:dogprin ts |
