Bard start to the morning! I was getting ready to go to exercise class early this morning and noticed what looked to be 2 small drops of blood on the bathroom floor. I went and checked the pee pads and there was a large spot of what looked like solid blood. I checked the 3 that use the pee pads and when I wiped Cali it was bloody. SO off to the 24 hour ER vet. I get there find out the one vet I don't like is the only one on call. He did a urinalysis and ultrasound. The ultrasound showed a lot of debris in the bladder, blood clots etc. and what they thought was a small stone.I can't remember but I think he said they catheterized her and got the debris out and didn't see a stone. Thank God. Her Urine was full of white and red cells. He said no bacteria was found but that doesn't mean there isn't some. He said Also alot of inflammation. So they are sending her urine out for culture to find the best medicine to put her on. They gave her Clavamox until they get the results back. Since she is on an immune supressor (Atopica) he wants her on an antibiotic for 2 weeks. I am leaving for Arizona Saturday and my daughter is coming to stay with the dogs. I hate leaving her a sick dog to care for but can't really cancel the trip. So we come home and they said to give the medicine with food. So the only canned food I have is Nikki's KD so I gave her a little to get her to take the pill and then a little more to give her something in her tummy. I gave Pixie and Roxie a little too but the KD is so rubbery like that the piece I gave Pixie must have been to big. I hear this clunk and turn around and Pixie is on her back choking. I grab her and turn her upside down and then tried clearing her throat. It must have gone down or up. She was breathing ok but totally freaked out, as was I. She wouldn't eat a treat or move. Finally after about 10 minutes my husband gave he a little piece of his toast and she ate it. She seem ok now. Please keep positive thoughts that Cali will clear up the infection clearly and they will all be ok while my daughter is watching them. Thanks |
I'm praying that the medication will help Cali and she will be better when your daughter watches her. Sending good thoughts and hugs. |
Yikes ... what a horrible start to a day. :( I do hope little Pixie is ok now. Choking is totally scary! Hopefully Cali will do well on the antibiotics! Will keep all of you in my thoughts and prayers. |
Poor Cali, and Pixie and you! {{{HUGS}}} Sending prayers and good thoughts for Cali that the medication will clear up the infection quickly. |
That really is a bad way to start the day. It sounds like Cali is going to be okay once they put her on the correct meds. Hoping her infection clears up soon. Pixie choking on the food must have scared the daylights out of you (and her)! I am definitely praying that your daughter has an easy time of it while you are away. |
Oh, I know you and Cali were so scared. Praying meds will heal Cali and she will feel much better. Hugs XXOOXX |
Praying that the meds will work, and Cali will be good as new!!!!:) |
sending positive thoughts and prayers your way:) |
Gosh, Patti! I felt so terribly bad when you called this morning with this news. I'm praying that Cali recover quickly and has no further problems. Poor baby. As for Pixie, it's so scary when they choke and I'm so thankful you got her through that. What a morning. Hugs to you! |
Hope the rest of your day & week go much better after all this drama. Sending good thoughts for Cali to be well soon. |
Oh Patti, I am so sorry to hear about your lil' one...I will pray that it is just a UTI and nothing more. I've fostered two lil' boys with Bladder Stones and they are no fun!:( Hugs! Jo Ann ps. forgot to add that I like to give pills pushed inside of a soft treat like a little smidgeon (that's a pinch;)) of like mozzarella cheese. |
I am so sorry to hear how your day started. I hope poor Pixie is feeling better how scary. Sending Prayers for Cali's continued improvement. I hope all goes smoothly and you can go out of town and enjoy yourself and everyone will be well taken care of. Best Wishes. |
What a scary and upsetting day.... hope that Calli gets better soon! |
Patti, I will keep Calli in my thoughts and prayers. I hope little Pixie is ok now. What a terrible start to your morning, but you caught it quickly. |
Thanks everyone for the well wishes and prayers. Cali is very quiet but doesn't seem to be in pain. Pixie is back to eating so that's a good sign. I went over to my daughters and told her that she needed to really be observant with all of them for any signs something is out of the ordinary and act accordingly. I have notified my vet and Animal Emergency that my daughter and my sister have permission to authorize treatment. They also kept my Care Credit # on file (even though she said they aren't supposed to) so the financial end is covered as well. |
Oh goodness, bless her and Pixie's little hearts. Prayers will go out to them and to you. Hope your vacation will be stress free. |
What a scary experience ! I personally find it very difficult to administer a pill to one of my dogs. Could the vet subsitute the medicine to a liquid form? The choking on the pill would of freaked me out completely. I think you have covered all your bases before leaving to Arizona. Callie sounds like she will be in good hands while your away. I hope Callie will recovery quickly and she will be feeling better in no time. |

I was a little worried because earlier, there was a big drop of red blood on the pee pad and no pee. I was worried she wasn't peeing, but just now she peed and there was a little blood in it and 2 drops of just blood. Hopefully the medicine will kick in soon. |
Oh my goodness, what a day! Poor Pixie and Cali. Sending prayers for both of them. Hang in there. |
Wow! Just now seeing this... what a totally insane morning! You need a vacation after that episode. I'll keep Cali in my prayers for a quick recovery, and Pixie too that she remain hazard free forever more! Hope you have a nice and safe trip. Big Hugs and many Puppy Kisses...:D |
so sorry to hear about your bad morning! i hope cali will recover completely with the meds and very very soon. i'm glad pixies little choking scare turned out to be okay. zowi barked while she was eating once and choked (inhaled) on a piece of food. it was very scary! please keep us posted on how she's doing. we are all hoping for the best! keep yas in my thoughts and prayers! |
Sorry you had two scares in a row right before a trip! I know it is hard not to worry but please try to relax and know they will be fine while you're gone. Praying for them to be especialy healthy & without any problems while you are gone and that your daughter has nothing but fun and a loving time with them! Have a great trip free of stress and worry! :) |
I hope things are much better for you this morning! |
Thanks so much! Cali is still peeing with a little blood but so far I haven't seen her just peeing blood droplets. I am glad she uses pee pads or I may not have known as soon as I did that she was peeing blood. Also makes it easier to monitor her improvement. As soon as I get back from Az I am going to switch them all back to California Natural just incase the Nutro Ultimate was in any way a contributing factor. Pixie is back to her sassy self. Thank God. My daughter loves Cali and Cali misses her so much so I know she will be in good hands. |
I hope she keeps improving and I know your daughter will take excellent care of all of them.:) |
Hope Cali recovers quickly. Sending XOXOXO your way..... |
Thanks. Cali hasn't had any blood in her urine since this morning so hopefully the antibiotics are working. |
Poor baby:( I hope she is going to be ok. |
I\'m so glad to hear your latest update, Patti. I was going to call you tonight, and ended up with a 2 hour phone call with my son and it got too late. |
The vet just called and Cali\'s culture showed E coli so she will stay on the Clavamox for 2 weeks. I am taking Nikki in tomorrow as he has started with some strange behaviors and I want him checked out before I leave for Arizona. My daughter asked me just how many sick dogs I was leaving her with. Hopefully they will all do well while we\'re gone. |
