Possible Sick Teacup Yorkie???
 

Hello everyone,
My husband bought me an 11 wk old female teacup Yorkie 3 days ago and she was VERY energetic and yesterday we left her home for a short while yesterday to do some grocery shopping. I noticed she was barking A LOT while we were gone. Anyways last night she was vomiting blood and had diarrhea. Please reassure me she's bleeding because she was barking too much. I don't want this to be Parvol.

Also, the breeder never specified what food she was on, so it could be a possibility her diet could be affecting her?

Please take this pup to vet immediately as these babies can go from bad to worse real quickly. Hopefully this is just a stress issue but better safe than sorry... Please take to vet asap!!!! Hope this was helpful! Welcome to yorkietalk.

I hope you were able to get her to a vet today, These little ones can get seriously ill very quickly. Please let us know how she is doing.

Yes, it could be dietary. Anything like this in a pup though has to be assumed serious. So the ER is your best option if you didn't go to the vet earlier today.

Totally agree. Pancreatitis comes to mind. Did you change her food? Feed her from the table? Doubt if it is from just barking.

Why do you call her a teacup? Hope she gets better real fast.

You can't make drastic changes to a puppies diet. You need to slowly implement any changes within - at least - 3 days.

Yorkies don't like to be left alone. Oh.... there's no such thing as a teacup yorkie - just so you know.

I hope you were able to get your little one to the ER vet. Vomiting blood is never good and required immediate vet attention. Please come back to update on how she is doing.

Not sure if this person will be on to update us. She's posted 3 times since 2008 and each time she's stated how she wants a Teacup...each time she's been told there is no such thing.

I hope this wee one has been taken to the vet. Vomiting Blood is not a good sign. Don't understand why a tiny would be left at home alone for any amount of time.

I can't believe that you have been on here for 3 years and you still were not prepared to bring home a puppy and you still think there is such a thing as a teacup!! I guess some people are slow learners!! I hope your pup doesn't suffer because of your lack of preparedness. She might have giardia and/or coccidia, both of which can be fatal if not taken to the vet. Good luck to your pup.

Plead take her to the vet ASAP! Doesn't matter what it is, tour puppy needs treatment NOW!

I think the breeder should have sent home some food with you that she had previously been eating -or , at the very least, told you what brand to go and buy.

Hopefully, this is all a result of a diet change; the vet has given you a clean bill of health; and your little puppy is now feeling better.

Just wanted to keep you all updated. We took our "TEACUP" Yorkie to the Vet yesterday and very excited to report our beautiful "TEACUP" Yorkie is all better!! Vet said it was just her diet! To those of you who said I might not reply, I apologize I didn't respond immediately as I do have a life. I don't sit on YorkieTalk all day!! Oh and those of you who don't believe their is such thing as a "TEACUP"... I beg to differ!! As a matter of fact the Veterinarian pointed out, "Anything under the standard weight of a Yorkshire Terrier, would be considered a "TEACUP". Oh and you right, I haven't been on 'YorkieTalk' for a few years, now I remember why! Wink...Wink!!! ;)

The standard weight of a Yorkie is "under 7 pounds"- so there is nothing under the standard. :confused: What an educated vet. Teacups are a marketing ploy for greeders to make big $$$$. I have seen teacups turn out two ways: 1. they are very unhealthy small dogs throughout their life; or 2. they turn into teapots and their owners are baffled.

AND..did your vet tell you any breeder who lets an 11 oz puppy go with or without instruction should be hung up down to get some blood to their brain so they can make wise decisions about breeding....

Are you saying that the breeder did not send this baby home with a full set of instructions about what and when to feed as well as a goodly sample of what it had been eating, etc.?

Actually,if you look in AKC you will find all breeds of dogs. In the listing, you will not find a "teacup" yorkie. You will only find a "Yorkshire Terrier". That is the only yorkshire terrier breed. Greedy breeders sell dogs that are very tiny in order to label them something that sounds really exotic - but in reality............ you got the runt!

OK so you ask for help and then belittle the people who are offering information and suggestions. You want people to reassure you that bleeding and vomiting can be a result of barking to much? REALLY?? Then you make a snide comments in regards to thanking the people who were just trying to help and were concerned for your dog and for what you were going through? WINK WINK back at YOU. Hopefully you have been so busy with your life doing the proper research yourself to find the correct diet for your dog so that it does not have to have another vomiting/bleeding incident. You obviously have been to busy with your life to research the fact that TEACUP is a marketing tool and not a Yorkshire Terrier size distinction. It is used to increase the selling price of a substandard sized dog. Their are many issues that can be magnified the smaller the dog is. So many people feel that those who breed for undersized Yorkies are not concerned with the health issues that may compromise the dog's quality of life but are more concerned with the ability to sell a novelty item. So yes Teacup is used by people but that does not make it a valid description of size but more of a slang for runt. Sorry but I was honestly offended that you would ask for help and then criticize YT. That being said I am glad your dog is feeling better.

There is no such thing as a teacup. There are small yorkies and if youve been here 3w yrs you already know that and your trying to irritate people

However I feel the need to burst your bubble. According to the Yorkshire Terrier Club of American and the American Kennel Club breed standard the weight of a yorkie "Must not exceed seven pounds." So by that statement ruling any dog 7 lbs and under is within the standard. A 1.5lb yorkie, while it may be smaller then the average yorkie, is still a "STANDARD" Yorkshire Terrier.

As you've been told before, the term "teacup" is a marketing ploy used by some breeders to make their puppies seem extra special and cute. This special term also comes with a price tag.

Didn't the standard used to be 4 - 7 lbs., and if so, anyone know what AKC removed the lower weight?

Read the Yorkie standard, A yorkie can be anything up to 7 pounds. How can something be under that????????????????? Anything includes ounces to pounds!
Please learn the truth and be a great parent to you new baby, you don't seem to be starting out on the right foot, If you really care, you will learn. If you don't like what you read on YT maybe you shouldn't post

I have been in yorkies, showing and bredding for more than 30 yrs, the weight standard has never shanges in that time. I think some magazines state that most are 4-7pounds
But the AKC/YTCA standard has always been the same on weight

Newbie here...just curious. What is a teapot? I've seen it alot on the board here. I'm assuming a Yorkie over 7 pounds? Also, my Roxi is 4 mos old and only weighs 1.8 pounds. Her mom was 6 pounds and her dad was 4 pounds so I just assumed she would be between 4 and 6 pounds. According to the weight charts, it looks like she'll be lucky to get to 3 pounds (Not that it will change anything. She's a part of our family now and we love her lots). I know the woman I got her from told us she would probably get to be 5 pounds but our vet says probably not. Any chance she will have major growth spurts?

Far as I know it is still 4-7 pounds. Some will be larger, some smaller, but no such thing as a Teacup, Teapot, Bulldozer, etc. Gimicks to fool the clueless and unsuspecting. Wonder if that is why a tiny one costs so much more! Love it when some person said they breed for Tinies. If that does not throw up a flag, nothing will.

Oh, and what is the name of your vet? I would be more than happy to send him the standards so that he will be more informed for the next teacup owner. ;)

Obviously, no such thing as a teapot either, just an out of standard yorkie- but yes, people lovingly call their dogs who are over 7 pounds "teapots". The weight charts are not always correct, so she could get a little bigger then three pounds- but I wouldn't count on it. Good Luck with her.
