Myy little guy went in Sunday night for emergency surger Hey guys my 1 year old 8 month yorkie named Chewbacca went into emergency surgery Sunday night/MOnday early morning for intenstinal blockage. Dr. called us at 4am to tell us that the surgery went well and it was a hairball in his intestine/mixed with bone. This is weird since we don't really leave bones around, but the hair can be accounted for a carpet that just gathers it. Regardless, his vital signs are good, but the internist just called today and said that he vomitted up some green fluid today, but did eat some chicken earlier today. I understand that intestinal surgery could lead to peritonitis - inflammation of the intestinal tissue, but I am hoping that its just post surgery/anesthesia jitters. Vet wants him to stay over one more day. Please pray for him http://a8.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot..._1781998_n.jpg |

Will say a prayer for speedy recovery. |
Oh Chewie you gotta watch what your chewing!!! I am glad to hear he is out of surgery and doing better. I hope Chewbacca feels better and there are no additional issues. Buster threw up a little carpet hairball the other day. I have training treats that I break into smaller pieces and I found him hoovering the carpet the other day trying to get up the tiny bits. I will definitely be more aware after seeing your post. |
Saying prayers for Chewbacca. My Sammy had similar surgery in 2002. I don't know what he ate but the vet showed us a piece of plastic that she took from his stomach. He was a little droopy when he came home but soon perked up. Hope your little feels better each day. |
Hope and prayers for Chewie. |
Just got a call from the Vet said that Chewie has not vomitted since this morning, but unfortunately he just is accumulating bile in his stomach and it is not being digested properly. Visiting hours from 7-9 tonight. im at a loss of words. |
What does vet think is causing the bile in the stomach? Chewie is in my prayers. Let us know. |
Poor Chewie! Sending good thoughts your way for your little guy to recover and come home to you quickly. |
I'm sorry to hear Chewbucca is sick. Sending prayers for the little guy. I pray they can find out what is going on with him and get it corrected. Good thoughts and well wishes to you both. |
they believe that since the stomach was under stress for the day (Sunday) before we took him in (Sunday night) that it fell into a state of paralysis and its not working. |
Oh, poor little guy. I pray he is able to recover. Keep us posted. Hugs to both f you. |
UPDATE: Wednesday, March 16, 2011 We prayed all night long. Woke up today and called the Vet. He gave me some promising news. He indicated that he ran some blood work and the reason Chewie keeps vomitting is because of an acute case of pancreatitis. Apparently, the intestinal blockage occured and may have slightly damaged the pancreas. The pancrease began leaking digestive enzymes which is causing chewie to vomit. Luckily pancreatitis is something that is seen frequently. There are 2 great treating agents -fluid -pain control Luckily Chewbacca can remain on the IV and fluid treatment. Making sure his electrolytes are at a good level and his potassium. Blood treatment can be done on a daily basis and he should recover. The doctor indicated that Chewie needs rest and needs to remain on fluids. I am going to continue to hope and pray. Thank you all for your support! |
This is good news. :) Many members here have little ones that have/had pancreatitis and it is treatable to a good extent. I pray Chewie recovers and comes back home soon! Bonny |
Sending prayers for Chewie's continued recovery. |
