Checking to see how you and Princess Chloe are doing....hoping you were able to get an appointment today at UC Davis. I would be concerned if my neurologist didn't have all the equipment necessary at his office (the MRI) I think you are smart to seek out a second opinion especially given that you are getting that nagging feeling that something isn't right with the first specialist. Sending lots of prayers and hugs to both of you. |

Nothing happened to this pup. She has a congenital problem that was not apparent until after the spay. I imagine it had to do with the positioning when she was intubated....that probably made her pain come about but certainly did not cause the condition. |
Checking in to see if we found out what was going on yet. |
Of course it could be due to trauma....it will depend upon the results of the MRI .. if there is a missing ligament or not. But, the diagnosis is the same and they don't need to see the screaming. |

I am sure that UC Davis will get a firm diagnosis from their testing. |
Hi Everyone: We've been very busy getting medical evaluations for Princess Chloe who was confirmed to have AAI by the SPCA, San Francisco Veterinary Specialist Hospital, and UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine. To make a long story short UC Davis placed a brace around Princess Chloe's neck which has to be changed every week for three months until her vertabrae bones are fully developed to do surgery. Yesterday and today we've been at UC Davis, and they full did an evaluation (the entire neuro department faculty), and today more blood test, ultrasound and next week we will get the results. Princess has developed some strange itching around her whiskers and nose, so next tuesday we have an appointment at UC Davis dermatology department to see if she's developed some sort of allergy. But thank God, things are working out. God has place some angels in my path who have lifted us up and supported us in this journey. God bless all of our furbabies, may He give them all long healthy lives.... Thank you all!! |
Thank you for taking the time to update us! I am so happy to hear that you have been to UC Davis and that things are going well. God Bless you and your husband...Princess Chloe is so lucky to have such wonderful parents! I will keep all of you in my thoughts and prayers. |
Sounds like a plan... will keep your little one in my prayers. Plastic food dishes can cause a problem on faces... |
Thank you KJ for your concern and comment. I have the microwaveable dish set of Cesar Millan. Their made out of this rigit plastic, I'll make sure to take it with me during her appointment with dermatology at UC Davis this upcoming Tuesday. In the meantime I've been feeding her by hand, she doesn't want to eat since she's had so much diarrhea. Thanks again for your reply. Naomi |
Mary (Yorkie In Common) I've been so overwhelmed that I forgot to thank you for the idea of taking a video of Princess episodes to the vet. You don't know how much this really helped the vets. to see her episodes and help them in their evaluation. UC Davis was very impressed, they also had the Xray we had the SPCA take of Princess Chloe during the evaluation. Many thanks again!!!! Princess Chloe and Mami Naomi |
Sending prayers and good wishes for you and Princess Chloe!!!! |
Hi Everyone! Thank you Sammy Mommy for your comment and prayers! We were able to get the date of Princess Chloe's surgery and it is for 7/11. The reason it so far into the year is that they want her vertabrae bones to be fully grown, and of course there is a vet. conference going on and the majority of the neurosurgents will be gone the month of June. We had to remove Princess Chloe's neck brace last night she couldn't breathe, and she woke up in the early AM with pain eventhou we had given her her meds two hours before. I guess it was the absence of the neck brace and she just hurt herself while asleep. Anyway, she slept in my arm until around 3am and I was able to put her into her kennel to sleep. One of our angels told me about a suggestion that her vet had given her of using a styrofoam cup cut down the middle as a neck bracer. So we measured the styrofoam cup again the old neck bracer and it seem to have done the trip. When we got to UC Davis to have it changed the doctors took her away and 5 mins. later they returned with Princess Chloe and her styrofoam neck bracer. LOL The loved the idea and said it would do the trick, they took lots of pictures and sent us home. Well, there's just one question I need to have you all give me advice. Princess Chloe's pain med. has a bitter after taste to it and we have to struggle with her to take it. I'm concerned that we may hurt her if we force it on her. We've tried giving her baby food after to remove the bitter taste, Nutri cal to neutralize the bitter after taste too. Med is Tramadol. Does anyone have any recommendations????? Well, that's all for now, Princess Chloe send kisses/licks and Me many thanks to all. |
Try crushing it up with a pill crusher and putting it in a tsp of pumpkin. Pumpkin will be the only ingredient. It also helps to settle the tummy. Quote:

If you are talking about the liquid Tramadol, I seriously don't know what to tell you to do. It is awful tasting! I have never been able to get a pup to take that stuff. The problem is that many of the yorkies are too small for the tablets. With the last pup who had spinal surgery, I ended up calling and changing her to tablets...it was difficult as I had to cut them in 1/8s. If I were you, I would call them and tell them that she is not taking that med well. If they spit it out they are not getting the correct dose. That was the problem I had. Maybe they can give her something else....or maybe they have some magical way to get it down them. |
I am so very happy you want to U Davis. It sounds like you have a great team of specialists there to help you and Princess. Princess will be in my prayers. Have a wonderful day, |
Thank you Gemy and Lady Jane for your replies and good wishes! Princess Chloe is not taking the liquid med completely. As you mentioned Lady Jane is spitting it out. I had to give her 0.01ml of Tramadol liquid with can id food, baby food mixed together on top of the 0.25ml I had given her 3 hours earlier. I am going to call the SPCA where her primary vet is and see if the pharmacy can give me pills, I have no problem cutting them to the precise amount. I'm also going to call a compound pharmacy to see if they can help me find a way to get it in pill form. I'm going to see if I can get the manufacture of the medicine today, and see what they recommend. Princess Chloe's surgery has been schduled for 7/11/11 and she's so small, I won't let her go through pain until then, there has to be another way? Naomi:confused: :( |

Hugs to Princess! |
God Bless You Ann!!!!!!!! I'm going to try that idea as soon as she wakes up today, thank you!!!!!! I'm going to give her little pieces of bread to see which one she likes. I hadn't really explored peanut butter with her since she was eating so well and I was using her kibble as treats. I'll try that and/or smooth velveta cheese. It shouldn't hurt her as long as I can get to take her meds. Thank you so much for that suggestion! Many times we can see the forest because of the trees... Princess Chloe send her kisses/licks and Me all my gratitude.:) |
Sweet little baby girl! I'm so sorry she is in this much pain. :( Ann's tip about bread and peanut butter is a great idea! Hope that works! Mine love peanut butter! |
I will be very surprised if that trick works. I have tried everything in the past....that med is one of the absolute worst to give. I put it in everything imaginable. Recently Buffy's foster mom had the same problem and they did allow her to cut the tabs. As for finding tablets for her...not going to happen. :( This med is awful for the tinier yorkies. |

I just want to suggest giving her something before you even try the medication, just incase her mouth may be dry. I noticed when medicating Tink she took all her meds much better if I give her a tiny taste of cheese, PB, or chicken baby food right before giving her the meds... and of course another taste without any meds afterwards, as a treat for being good. Also keep in mind, after a while they get better at taking meds, with Tink now, nothing is any big deal, and it also helps for me to stay absolutely calm during the entire process. If I'm in a rush, I take a minute to calm myself down even before approaching her... |
I know all of you mean well...but have you tasted that stuff? Seriously. ? I honestly don't know why they even prescribe it. I have had problems with it with three pups and another foster home had a problem with one. I have never had such an issue getting meds into pups. I hope someone does come up with a solution....but honestly, the medicine is downright awful and it is notorious for being a problem. I can tell you that I will NEVER use it again....waste of money imo. |
If you have a compounding pharmacist near you they can often compound it mixed with some flavor that your baby will like.;) It is a bit more expensive but well worth it IMO . |
 I didn't realize it was liquid... Quote:

Sending prayers for Princess Chloe. Please help her mom find a way to get her to take the Tramadol. May her pain ease and may she be comfortable until they can perform the surgery. May God guide the surgeons hands and keep Princess safe. |
I always make a scrambled egg and add parmesan cheese. The chesse smell is so strong that most of the time it kiss the smell and taste of the meds. |
