Everybody.... are you sitting down?

Tink is waking up. She's doing well.:D

But... she does have multiple shunts ... so nothing can be done other than medical/dietary management... kidneys look good, bladder stones were removed... will know more tomorrow...:(

I can visit her tomorrow and maybe bring her home Thursday...:D

Well that is both good news and bad news. I'm sorry to hear she has multiple shunts, but I'm glad the stones were removed from the bladder and that she is recovering from the surgery. Were there any kidney stones?

She made it through surgery! Yeah!!!! I sure hope her medical treatment for those shunts isn't too awful. You are both still in my prayers.

So glad Tink is awake from the surgery and doing well. I know she will feel much better when she sees you. I am sorry there are more shunts. Sending prayers for Tinks continued improvement with the medications and diet.

My Lola also has MVD. They closed the largest shunt at UT. She now lives with MVD, but is thriving and is doing great! I'm so glad Tink is doing well after surgery. She is lucky to have you fighting for her!

Glad she is doing well:thumbup: What exactly is a liver shunt?? What exactly happend that they found this out? Will keep praying for a speedy recovery:D

Hopefully the worst is over and you can get a little rest now, and bring her home Thursday.

I am among the many YT members managing MVD with diet and supplements (my Yorkie Tiki), and she is doing great at almost 3. I wish you all the best!

I am glad she is through surgery. So many do well with MVD with diet and meds. My Cali has mild MVD and has done well on a low protein diet. I will keep you in my prayers that her recovery is speedy and you are home soon.

Thanks... Liver Shunt is a vein that bypasses the liver and allows the blood that is normally filtered and cleaned to be returned to the circulatory system full of nutrients and toxins picked up from the intestines.

A Bile Acid Test is the best way to determine how well the liver is functioning.

Some early symptoms are UTIs, picky eaters, lethargy, slow growth rate, difficulty handling anesthesia, elevated liver enzymes (basic bloodwork), to mention a few. Some dogs exhibit strange behavior or may seizure after eating a meal.

Tinkerbell may have MVD, this will be determined when the biopsy results come in.

She does have multiple extrahepatic shunts, they only fix dogs that have one extrahepatic shunt (usually). This is not good news. This means that what we have been doing is the only thing that can be done for her. This is a death sentence.

Oh, no. Oh, no. I am so sorry. Oh, what horrible news. Please accept my heartfelt sympathy for this awful news and I pray that she will not suffer. This is the worst news. I am so sorry for Tinkerbell. Poor little girl. I know you are just numb.

I am so sorry. I was under the impression that you meant MVD - I didn't realize that you meant something different. I have learned a lot about shunts and MVD and how to manage them in the last 2 years, but I know nothing about what you are talking about since we have not encountered it. Hopefully it will be able to be managed medically and with diet and the outcome will be positive. I will continue to pray and send positive thoughts your way.

Kathy, I don't know a whole lot about MVD but my heart goes out to you. I pray that Tinkerbell can overcome whatever she may be diagnosed with. You have helped me countless times with my dogs' health and I am so very hopeful that you and Tinkerbell can get through this together.

Oh my God! For once I am at a loss for words because my heart is in my throat. Please forgive me of my ignorance to this situation, I just wish I could do something for you.

I thought this was a learning forum...where I could come and be so educated. I have been educated on heartbreaks for sure. What I want to learn is how to make you and Tink feel better. If I only had the power to, I would. You and Tink have a piece of my :love:.

When I first joined this forum your post was one of the first I read. I have always looked up to your advice. You have given so much of yourself here...I just want to know what can I give you back?

Even for the fact that I do not know you I want to tell you that I love you and Tink. I do not care how big or small your needs are... please, just ask. I am here, right along with the other members.

Thanks... This is more than MVD alone... I'll update again tomorrow after I speak with the vet.

I am so sorry. I thought she had MVD not multiple shunts. I also didn't know they couldn't repair multiple shunts. I will keep her in my prayers.
