I just went through this with my beagle in april, she had what we thought was a fatty tumor on one of her back feet, turned out that it indeed was cancer. The vet was positive that he got it all and she has been fine since. It was a pretty scary though and we watch her like a hawk, any sign of illness off to the vets she goes. I will keep Maxine in my thoughts and prayers as well as you and your wife. |
Steve. I am so sorry to hear this about Maxine! You guys sure have been thru the ringer! Hopefully it is nothing serious and just a "lovely" sign of old age. I don't know if this anecdote will help much, but my SIL's cocker Joe had these kinds of tumors all over him since he was just into his teens. He lived to be almost 17 years old! His best friend Mary (his kitty sister) was even older than that! They both passed in November. I'm praying that everything wil come back OK, and that you and Marge can concentrate on little Basil when he gets there! You are such good pet parents! |
Maxine is in our thoughts and prayers, here hoping it's just an old dog lump. |
Oh no! We'll keep Maxine and her family in our thoughts and prayers.... Big Hugs from Peek A Boo.... |
hi Steve... any news about Maxine???? Shinja |
Sending good thoughts. Just went through the same thing with my eldest, (she is 12) altho we had 5 masses removed. Its always a very scary thing for sure. She is also completely deaf so it was hard to comfort her altho I have taught her some sign language she understands. Quote:

Steve, You and Marge will be in my prayers on Thursday. I know Marge will be a wreck. Please give her my love and tell her everything will be ok...:) |
Thank you, all of you for the best wishes for little Maxine. She will have the operation on Thrusday morning around 8 am. While she is out, her teeth will also be cleaned. Naturally she has no idea, and is doing great. She however knows when she is going to the Vet and does not care for that. Now Carlo also knows where we are heading, and his short tail starts banging on the cars interior! He loves going. Go firgure, with everything he has been thru, he still loves going. |
Steve, I am keeping Maxine in my prayers that all will be ok. You made me chuckle about Carlo's little nub wiggling as I also have a Boxer....love those guys, too!! |

Baxter is my second Boxer and thankfully they were/are so great with people. I always said if someone came to rob me Blazer (my first one) would show them to the silverware! LOL Baxter and Bentley, my Yorkie are best friends. Hugs to your pack! |
Going to be a long day tomorrow. We have to have her at the Hospital at 8 am, and she will go under at around 9:15 am. Hope it is nothing. She is a tough little lady and hopefully will be here for a long time to show Basil the ropes. |
Lil Maxine, we are thinking of you and wishing you all the best on Thursday. |

Steve, Please let us know how Maxine is as soon as you can..... Prayers are with you and Marge. |
Maxine had her surgery. The Vet took out the lump, which as attached to a chest muscle, and closed it up with around 6 stitches. They are sending it out for a biopsy, and the results will be back in about a week. She would not venture a guess if it was malignant of benign. We are hoping for the best, but will deal with whatever comes our way. The teeth cleaning went well. She lost another 2 small front teeth, and one of her lower canines was tightened up with a few stitches. She tolerated the anesthetic well, and the surgery. She woke up about 10 minutes after they were done. Marge and I left her there to recover, and she should be able to be picked up in about 3-4 hours. Long morning for sure. |
I am praying for a good lab report. You must be relieved that the surgery is over. You and Marge make sure you have a little bite to eat to keep your strength up. Sending good thoughts and hugs to all of you!! |
