I hope Chloe is feeling better and you both have a good night's rest. Good luck at the vets tomorrow.:) |
I'm glad you are taking her into your vet's office, too. I think it is to be expected that she would be very weak after going through all of that. I would think it would take some time for her to regain her strength and not be so weak. |
Are her gums pink and wet (not sticky)? |

She is dehydrated and that means she is in danger. They should be wet and not sticky (tacky). Dehydration can lead to electrolyte imbalance which can lead to cardiac...problems. IMO, call another emergency vet and see what they recommend. It may not be safe to wait until morning if she won't drink. This is just my opinion though. I would not be comfortable having her wait until morning. |
what a scary experience to go through. I will pray for her recovery. Sounds like this illness has taken out a lot of her. Dehydration is what she has to try to keep up with, and this seems really hard to do when she is not drinking by herself. I agree that if her gums are sticky or pale looking she will need to go back to the vet for rehydration. Best wishes to baby Chloe, and to her recovering fully. |
Cali was pretty tired during her treatment, but she was receiving IV fluids every day and spending the days at the vtes office so I knew she was ok. I think I would take her to an er vet to be safe and get some fluids in her. I will keep her in my prayers. |
I just got back from the ER vets again. I didn't want to take any chances after checking her gums and reading what that meant and the danger she might be in. They are keeping her overnight with with the IV fluids because she's not drinking water she was still dehydrated. I took her back to the same one because they are familiar with what has been happening and she did like them and I didn't want to stress her out more by going to somewhere else. I feel better knowing she is getting what she needs. I'll call them in the morning to check on how's she doing and give an update on how she doing then. Please keep her in your prayer. Thank you everyone for your help |
Veruca and I are pulling for Miss Chloe... hopefully she's on the mend super quickly! |
I'm glad she is hooked back up to an IV, she needs all the fluid she can get. I hope you get some rest also. I will be praying for Chloe's recovery, I hope she gets well ASAP! :) |
Just catching up, sending lots of prayers for Chloe. Glad that she got better and this is just help her get even stronger. Hugs. |

Gizmo and I are pulling for Chloe as well, please keep us posted as to her care. I know you must be very tired as well, it is so hard to watch when your baby is not feeling well. Stay strong lady we are here for you and Chloe! :ghug::tinyheart |
:D:D:D We just picked up Chloe again from the hospital and we can tell a big difference in her this morning. She looks better and has much more energy and was actually excited and wagging her tail! She must have needed the additional fluids. They said she ate her food and she drank water yeah! She has an appointment to see are vet this afternoon. I'm so relived I didn't sleep last night that well. She was happy to see Claire, Charm, and Casey and being home unlike yesterday when she was so listless and out of it. She's resting now and mama is going to take a nap with her. Thank you everyone for your help with the information about the danger signs of dehydration. I've never had a dog go through this type of situation before and I've had little dogs all my life. |
Thank goodness Chloe is doing better!!!! Try to take a nap. You've been thru alot too. It's so stressful when they are sick!! Continuing prayers for Chloe! |
That is wonderful Chloe is doing better! Yeah! |
I'm so glad to hear that Chloe is doing better and I hope she continues to improve! Bless her little heart! |
YAY!!!So Happy she is better!!! :) |
I'm just reading this. I am so glad Chloe is feeling better. You were so wise not to wait to get her back to the emergency vet. |
Yaaaay! So glad to hear Chloe is doing better :) |
I'm so glad you took her in for more treatment... I'm just hoping that maybe you were able to see a different vet this time? And, yes, that much vomiting and diarrhea can really take a toll on any dog (humans too). And it does take time to restore the fluids that were lost, not to mention the blood that was lost. IV Fluids cannot be given too quickly, nor too much at one time, as they can end up in the wrong places (lungs). And as they can lose so much fluid and become severly dehydrated in such a short time, you can see how dangerous this HGE is, and why it can take longer to get them rehydrated and back to a healthy state. I would also call her regular vet to let him know what is going on with her. Maybe he could consult on her treatment? Or you could request that he be involved? IDK, but it would be worth asking about IMHO. I will be praying that she makes a rapid recovery... I know when the clinic where I worked sent HGE cases home, their PCV's were normal, the pups were eating and drinking on their own for one entire day at the hospital, and they were 'bouncing off the walls' wanting to go home! Just read your latest update.... that sounds more like it! Yay! And the recheck with your vet later! Yay! |
Glad to see she is feeling better. I bet you feel better too. |
So happy she is better.:) |
Chloe went in to see my vet this morning. His wife been very ill and has been very and been in and out of the hospital for the last month so I wasn't able to get her in yesterday so I took her first thing this morning. He said her prognosis is very good :D because we got her treatment quickly and without it she could have died. He wants her on a bland low fiber diet for at least the next 2 weeks and he will recheck her then to see if we can start getting her back on her regular diet. |
I pray your vet's wife recovers quickly... so glad he was able to see Chloe today and that she is on the road to recovery.... Keeping you both in my prayers... |
I hope Chloe continues to do well.:) |
This was an interesting post, and glad Chloe is doing so well. My girlfriend's Westie looked like he was going downhill fast, and we took him to the university vet teaching hospital in Denver. They immediately put him on IV fluids and he perked up a lot the next day. He's doing fine now, but I think it's a lesson that when small dogs get dehydrated they really need emergency care asap. |
Sending prayers and love to you and Chloe. |
My prayers and thoughts are with you. X Ray Quote:
