so sorry to hear that your Chloe is so sick! I hope she is doing better today...saying a prayer for her!:) |
Was hoping for an update. Praying everything will be OK. |
I saw this post last night and your Chloe was the first thing I thought of when I woke up. I hope she is doing better and I hope you are feeling a little lifted. Your baby has a lot of positive thoughts, prayers, and concerns going her way. It's beautiful to see a community that really cares about strangers and their little ones well beings. Please let us know how things are going when you get a chance. |
Saying prayers up for you and your precious baby. Please let us know how things are going, when you can. I am sure your focus is completely on her now. I know mine would be. Our God will keep you in the comfort of His arms and watch over your baby. |
I hope your baby gets better soon. |
I hope your baby is well soon. |
Chloe is home now Thank you everyone for the prayers and kind supportive words it really helped me, also for the information on HGE. The people on YT are great. :D I picked Chloe up from the hospital and HGE was the diagnosis. She was given a can Iams low residue food that they want me to feed and give her small amounts of that and water more frequently for the next 2 days. They medication they sent home Keflin and Lomotil. They told me to watch her closely and that she should rest and call my regular vet it vomiting or diarrhea start again. I call their office this morning and he's at the hospital emergency room with his wife so I hope nothing starts again. She very tired and is resting in her crate. They didn't really give me any other instructions other then to give her the meds and how to feed her for the next few days and rest. I wish I could get a hold of my vet because I want to know if need to take her in to be re-checked in a few days. Also is this something that could happen again at a later date? Is their something I should do to make sure it doesn't happen again? After 2 days I'm suppose to wean her back on the RC. I'll call my vet again tomorrow and see if he wants to see her. The hospital left her behind all dirty with bloody poop for $1284.00 you think they could have washed her bottom. I have Trupanion pet insurance on all my dogs but I've never used it yet I have 0 deductible so I hope it covers some of this. |
I hope Chloe feels better each day and get back to feeling like herself. Sending hugs to you both!! |
I'm so glad that Chloe is home. I know nothing about GME, but I'm sure there will be a lot more information in this thread soon. I hope that she continue to improve and that some of your vet bills are reimbursed. |
Glad to hear that Chloe is home and on the mend. Sending well wishes. |
Glad to hear she is home and on the mend. Still keeping you and Miss Chloe in my prayers for a speedy recovery and hope most of your vet bills get reimbursed. |
When I called at 6:00 am this morning the vet tech on the phone was holding her she said she was a real sweetheart and so lovable. That's my Chloe even sick she steal's your heart. |
I am so glad Chloe is home. When Cali had it they IV'd her for a few days because they can get so dehydrated. I would just watch her so that she doesn't become dehydrated. AT the first sign she seems to be getting worse get her in. It took Cali about 5-6 days to be completely back to normal. A month or so later she had that look in her eyes that something was up so I took her in and sure enough, when they took her temp bloody poop came out on it. The vet said I caught it just in time. They gave her meds and she was fine by the next day. She has not had another episode, knock on wood. It's been over a year. I hope Chloe feels better soon. |

Please let me know how Trupanion handles your claim. I have the same insurance and haven't had to make a claim yet either, so I'd like to know how good they are at handling reimbursement. |

I'm so sorry to hear that Chloe is so sick, but I'm happy that she is getting a little better. My prayers go out to her for a full recovery. You are such a good mom and remember that you have to take care of yourself, as well. Stay strong friend. |
So happy to hear she is home and will be getting better. You must be relieved. |
I just read through this forum I am so happy to read that they were able to treat her :) Give her a hug from me :) |

Treatment is fluids and meds, and nothing by mouth until it resolves... I would watch her closely for the next week or two.. you shouldn't need to have her rechecked unless symptoms return... There is no known (that I know of) documented cause for HGE... some think stress and /or a bacteria is responsible. There is nothing you can do to prevent it, other than providing a stress free environment. The important thing is to catch it early... it's a lot less expensive to treat that way. It can recur, so any sign of bloody diarrhea, or vomiting... or even slightly strange behavior (as Patti mentioned) I would run her past the vet to be checked. Pay special attention to weekends and holidays... you don't want to have to go the ER route again. My Peek a Boo had it twice, almost back to back... but I was already aware of the signs so I knew to get him to the vet immediately. It is always scary, and it can be fatal. He has been HGE-free for 6 years now. And, yes, there's no excuse for not cleaning her up... unless she was getting too stressed out... So glad to hear she's at home and feeling better... I'll keep her and you in my prayers... |
Just reading this. I'm glad she is home and feeling better. |
So happy she is recuperating. |
It's always good to follow up with their regular doctor so they will have the history of this happening and be able to make a decision of switching her diet back. Yes, they should have cleaned her up. You can always let a manager/the owner know that somebody didn't do their job. |
I'm glad she's back with you and feeling a bit better. I hope she feels all the way better very quickly!! So sorry about the HGE :/ |

I just wanted to add that although I don't know what caused Cali's HGE, i suspected the cow hooves i was giving them had some bacteria on them. I switched them out frequently but felt that they could have been the cause. I stopped giving them hooves and haven't had any problems. They only get nylabones to chew on and I switch them out often. Cali is also on an immune system supressor for her allergies so I think she was more susceptible to infections then the other. |

Glad little Chloe is home resting and doing better. What a scare. Learn something new everyday here. I had never heard of this. I am going to read about it. Keep us posted how Chloe does. |
I am so glad your baby is home. I kept checking the thread at work (student were taking mid terms) to see if there was any news. I think you are getting good advice-- and I agree two days seams a bit of a rush to start back on rc. Anyway... take care |
She seems really tired she has only lifted her head up when I pick her up. She has eaten about 4 TBS of the food and I've given her water with a dropper every few hours because she isn't getting up to drink it out of the bowl, I've even brought the bowl to her and she just turns her head which worries me. I put her on her pad and she did pee a few minutes ago and is now back to sleep again. I called the hospital and asked if it is normal for her to be so tired and weak and they said yes she's been through a lot and to try taking her outside the the cold air might wake up a bit. I don't think that is a good idea with all the snow in my yard. She doesn't want to walk around when I put her on the floor she lays down. I'm taking her into my vets in the morning, I have her test result and x-rays and I would like for him to check her over to be on the safe side. I can't wait until she's feeling better it is so hard seeing her like this. I will watch in the future for any signs of this and get her in asp. Thank you for all the information about your experiences with this. I think I'm going to sleep with one eye open watching her tonight. |
