When my dog had a scratch on his eye- I didn't see anything when I looked- but as soon as the vet put the dye in there it was! |
You absolutely still need to see the vet. Eye injuries are nothing to mess around with. Scratched corneas are extremely painful, too, |
Did you get your baby in to see the vet today? How is he doing? :) |
I hope this pup was seen by a vet. :( As for the comment that he was not in pain, the fact that he did not open it meant it was painful! Closing it helps to alleviate SOME but not all of the PAIN. Tears of the cornea are extremely painful! |
I'm confused. The sclera was red. The eye was swollen. Your pup couldn't open it all the way. That means it is extremely likely that something is wrong with the eye itself, not just the lid. A vet is needed today. It is not safe to wait. What if it needs to be medicated? Not worth waiting. Hope you went in today. |

Thank you everyone for your good thoughts & concerns. Chip is now on antibiotic eye drops & an anti-inflamitory. It appears that the inside of the bottom lid was scratched! He was very lucky not to have scratched the cornea & I can tell that it feels much better because he can open it all the way now & swelling has gone down. That was quite a scare!! |

Wonderful news for Chip. Thank you so much for the update and I am very happy to hear Chip is feeling better. :) |
Glad you took Chip to the vet. The eye is noting to mess around with. |
Glad everything is under control. Just went through this with my girlfriend's dog. FYI, if necessary there are canine opthamalogists, but usually your vet can handle it. Also, just like people, when the cornea gets scratched the pain and discomfort comes from the eyelid sweeping across the scratched cornea, not the cornea itself. |
