Update & prayers's for Charlie_boy My little Charlie is still very sick.:( We called a different vet 30 mins away last night and they wanted us to bring him in. We did and they tested him for Parvo. He is in the advanced stage but all the home nursing we did has helped him greatly. He lost some weight so now he is under 1lb. He is so tiny they tried doing the IV treatment but couldn't get it in his vein so they are doing Sub Q twice daily and it takes longer but it is something. Lots of poking on the poor little guy. We have had him only 1 week today but haven't got to enjoy him really for being so sick. I'm kinda frustrated at our vet here in town that he didn't even test Charlie for Parvo. We even called him at 1am one morning thinking he wasn't going to pull thru and he said not much we can do besides what your doing. Sooooooo please pray for Charlie that he will pull thru and we can bring him home :) Thanks.... Lisa |
He's home but...... Well we were able to bring Charlie home today. He was home for an hour had a seizure in his sleep! I ran to the cupboard gave him some Kayro syrup but he wasn't swallowing so we drove back to vet 25 miles away at 85 miles an hour. He was very limp and unresponsive. It was a very scary thing!! We are back home. Having to feed him via syringe every hour all thru the night also. Then for 3 to 4 days the same until he will eat well on his own. Poor little guy is so sore from saving him both times. I have had puppies before but have never gone thru anything like this! He is a fighter for making it thru all of this weighing less than a pound. Please pray for the little fella! Thank you :( |
poor little man, this must be awful for you, thoughts and prayers from us :animal-pa |
It's terrifying when your pet is sick, isn't it? The first two puppies I ever adopted years ago came from the pound and both had parvo at the same time. Both recovered and had no after effects, but I still remember how scared and exhausted I was. I hope little Charlie has a speedy recovery. |
Praying for a complete recovery for your Charlie Boy... |

You poor thing and Charlie Boy too! You haven't gotten to enjoy him at all; with every moment being filled with fear that he is so ill. I hope and pray that your vet can get him on the road to recovery. |
Thank you all for your kind words!! :hug:Muchly appreciated! We made it thru last night. I feel like a zombie....At the 4am feeding I tried a different soft food for him and the last few feedings he has ate that on his own but now won't drink. So depending on how much he eats the vet says I may have to give him 1 more syringe of food and a syringe of water or pedialite. I know the poor little guy is sore from prying his mouth open all the time. Does anyone know if this is normal after recovering from Parvo? |
Oh wow...I couldn't imagine having two with Parvo!! Did they have to have a hospital stay? Quote:

We're all praying for Charlie Boy. |
I am so sorry to hear about your little Charlie! I know you must be exhausted and terrified going through all of this. Sending good thoughts and prayers your way, I pray that Charlie gets better soon! |
Just said a prayer for your baby. Hope he is better soon. |
Hope and pray your baby comes through this okay. I think I would be looking for a new vet. He didn't sound too concerned to me from what he said on the phone. I know I am really over protective of mine but if a vet doesn't seem to care and seemed concerned, I'm gone. Even though you may have to drive further it might be worth it. Hope everything goes really well for you and that lil boy. |

Any news update? |
Hmmm I posted an update on here and was typing then it was gone! So don't know if it will show up or not let me retype... Charlie is better meaning more energy. Still really no appetite. Before he was sick he was eating Science Diet. Now he wants nothing to do with his food. I have Iam's puppy and nope! He won't even lap water yet. I did find Cesar's puppy soft food he likes okay if I make it interesting for him. He also likes baby food meat sticks but I don't give him that ofter not sure how good it is for him. Still on the every 2 hour schedule...I'm just exhausted! We give him the option to eat on his own with a few different ways. If he doesn't like it then we have to mix some food from the vet with water and syringe feed him which it is such a fight. Then I give him either pedialyte or formula for liquids. Does anyone have any suggestions for me to get his appetite back or get to eat his dog food again and drink on his own? He still gets weak if you go longer than 2 hours without feeding him. I'm praying this is still from his Parvo and not turning into a picky eater....UGH! |
Awwww poor Charley! My prayers are added into the mix. I remember when one of my boys was sick and would not eat, I added a bit of broth to the kibble and let it get soft and I mushed it up, he gobbled it up. Seems that he did not want to chew hard stuff at that point. If your baby's jaw might be sore from prying it open to feed him, maybe soften his kibble with something appetizing, a bit of chicken broth or plain yogurt. Maybe that will help. |
Well last night and this morning Charlie was FULL of energy. This I haven't seen in him yet!! He still doesn't have his full appetite back yet or drinking water just yet. I offer him food on his own each 2 hours and if he doesn't take it then we have to syringe feed him. The only food I can get him to eat right now is Cesar's puppy soft food and Beneful puppy hard food. I don't think either one is very good for him. The vet said this morning it's okay right now since he is eating it and starting to get an appetite. She said to just keep doing what I'm doing and in time I can change to a better food. So I'm praying that this week he will gain his appetite back and I can get him eating then I can spread out this every two hours. And too once he feels better I hope his potty training will pick up better! Some more sleep would be nice :) We take him back Saturday for a checkup and shots. Thank you all again for your kind words of encouragement....it's been nice relating to others that have been thru this! |
I am happy to see that Charlie is doing better. Keeping him in my prayers |
I hope after all this its all happy days ahead and a long healthy happy life for you and Charlie! :) |
Well I'm at a loss about Mr. Charlie and what is up with him. This morning he was having another episode with his blood sugar, was in the beginning of a seizure but got the karo syrup in him in time. Now he is back to diharehea (sp??) and still won't eat on his own. I have to collect a sample tomorrow take it in and run some test's on that. Other wise just keep doing every two hours via syringe until he gets to having his own appetite. I'm so exhausted and laundry laundry laundry!:asleep: Poor guy!! So please pray that we can pull out of this and he can get a full appetite back! My husband goes back on nights tomorrow and it's just me. It is harder to feed him since he puts up such a fight. I just keep saying this tooo shall pass. :scratchhe |
Seems like the poor little baby is really having a tough time. Bless his heart, and yours too. Are you happy with the new vet? Do you feel like they are checking everything? Did he have blood tests ran? It might be good to run them again...then you can see if there are any changes anywhere. Did you say how old he was? I couldn't remember. Also, do you have any nutrical? I don't know for sure but I think it is even better than the syrup. Hang in there....I know you have got to be physically and emotionally exhausted. Make sure you are taking care of yourself too. Rest as much as you can. Keep us posted...I will be thinking and praying for Charlie. |
Hi Bitsy....yes for the most part I'm happy with the switch in the vet. Charlie is getting way better care here than before. I don't think he would be alive if we stayed where we were. I'm taking Charlie back to the vet today and they are going to do some more testing. So we shall see what that turns out to be. Today has been a good day. Playing alot and has been picking up his dry food playing with it but hasn't eaten any yet. So I'm still plugging away with what I'm doing. I do not have any nutrical...I'm going to check into this today. I don't know if I get it at the vet or can you get it at Walmart? We do not live near a pet store so pretty limited on what I can and can't get. So pray for good test results and answers??!! Quote:

I'm glad you posted...I was thinking about him. I think you can get nutrical at the vets. So glad to see his energy is up! That is a good sign! Hang in there! Love to Charlie boy! |
My mother had a similar situation with her yorkie Pepper, she took her to this animal hospital in Riverhead LI which is supposed to be top of the line and they were all the way. She was a puppy as well, I think 2 months old and was 8oz she had cocksidia and was in really bad shape near death honestly it was frightening but 4 years later she's in perfect health and she's a little fatty now. So keep your prayers and positive thoughts. He is strong and can pull through this!!! I'll be praying for him....BE STRONG CHARLIE BOY...you can get through this!!! |
