Something I've done with mine and that has worked is I put crushed ice in her bowl and add the cold water. She hears or sees me and comes running. That is how I have gotten her to drink more water. She loves it!

I know and completely agree.
Hubby was feeding them whatever he eats. He works graveyard and I'd find the evidence the next day.
Yes I fussed at him. He says they gave me that look. Since I explained issue to him and also showed him change in poop. He has started deboning there food.

As far as the powdery poop -- I would not worry -- probably a little on the dehydrated side. I seem to have to remind mine to drink sometimes. They are pretty good in hot weather but this fall, I have noticed some pretty dry poops too. Always makes me remember to herd them to the water bowl. Annie is better about it. She seems to love her water bottle. The other two have not paid it any attention. I guess they were never raised with one and now think it is just for her.

Glad I am not the only one looking at poops. My son kidded me about always looking after they go in the yard. I told him that is one of the best ways to see a health problem. He still thinks I am weird.

I can tell a change in their diet by the poop.

I think we all can. If you would have told me 2 years ago, that I'd look at and examine my dog's poop before flushing it, I would have told you that's nuts!!! Ah well, as long as my pup is healthy and happy, I'll do anything. :)

How is it today? Any different or still powdery?

Have you had any recent flea issues?

The reason I ask, last year Remy had a bad bout with fleas. As we all know they can get a tapeworm if they ingest a flea, which of course Remy also got. Around this time the texture of his bowel movements was very very similar to what you are describing. Once we addressed the tapeworm issue all returned to normal.

Obviously I have no idea if this is your situation, but its food for thought....

Lane has these on occasion. Your description (and the picture of the donut) is dead on! :p

She usually eats Orijen in the morning and premade raw in the evenings. She is a rescue and for as long as we've had her she's seemed to "strain" a bit more when going than Rory who could probably poop on cue if asked. They both eat the same diet/supplements. Everything checks out fine at the vet though. I do see Lane at the water bowl a lot more than Rory still. :confused:

HAHAHA! That donut was the first thing that came to mind. I even thought for a split second that he had eaten one. That doesn't make sense since we're not allowed to have sweets in the house (mom's rules).

Anyway, Kaji's last 2 BM's have been perfect. No more donut-like poops so far. He was really fussy and antsy last night, he just wanted his belly rubbed. Maybe he had an upset tummy?

Thanks for the tip. I'll keep that in mind. Another reason to be more vigilant when it comes to fleas.

I am with you on this and wouldn't stop for anything. It's gotten to the point where friends and family are calling for advice. :)
