was thinking about her (and you) this morning. hope she's on her way to feeling better very soon! |
I don't know how much better Maggie is feeling. She is still somewhat lethargic. She will find a room that doesn't have people and that is where she will stay, by herself. Sometimes she will hide from us. Her appetite is not back, she is eating some boiled chicken, not very much. She won't eat the rice (pickey little girl). I may try to see if she will eat the baby hot dogs again. There is no diaherra in the house so I'm hoping that part is over. I still haven't seen her drink water. I was at work yesterday but last night she didn't drink any. On Monday the vet said if she's not better in two days to bring her back. She is better, but not a lot. I'm still worried. |
Do her gums feel tacky to the touch? Or if you pull up her skin at her neck..does it immediately return to normal? These are both signs of dehydration. I'd take her back to the vet's office. Hope she feels better soon. |
I'm sorry Maggie isn't feeling well. I agree with Deb about checking for signs of dehydration, especially since you haven't seen her drink yet. When are you taking her back in? |
I'm so sorry that Maggie still isn't feeling better :(. Maybe call the vet tech and see if the vet could prescribe something additional? Maybe Sucralfate (not sure if that would help)? Have you tried mashed potatoes yet...sometimes just straight carbs are soothing to the tummy, bc they absorb some of the nauseous juices, while also providing a quick energy source. You're probably so stressed...please know I'm thinking of you and Maggie. |
Which vaccines did she get on the 5th? How much does she weigh? Does she accept petting and handling okay or is she painful anywhere? Hope she's feeling better soon.... |
I hope she starts feeling better real fast. |
Good News! Maggie is eating kibble again! About an hour ago I recieved a picture on my phone and it shows Maggie eating kibble. I don't know what happened to her from the time I left home this morning until then but she is doing better. So, for now, YAY Maggie! (I hope I don't jinx myself) Thanks for the advice and well wishes. It's been a rough six days. |

I hope Maggies feeling much better and keeps up her progress! I also hope you get some rest, you don't need to come down with something yourself from being stressed! Hugs to both of you! |
Good for Maggie! I hope she keeps getting better and better everyday.:) |
wonderful news! gentle hugs to Maggie! |
Some of the major symptoms of Leptospirosis (the disease) is dehydration, lethargy, no appetite, bloody diarrhea, and, depending on the strain of Lepto, kidney and /or liver involvement. I couldn't find any info on the probability of getting this disease from the vaccine, but I do know it can happen. I am very suspicious of this because of the symptoms she is experiencing. I would discuss this with your vet asap, and if he thinks not... I would go so far as to get a second opinion somewhere else. I would have the vet check her kidney/Liver bloodwork, check Buster too as it is very contagious. The treatment is pennicillin followed by a course of Doxycycline. IV Fluids may be needed to rehydrate her. Early treatment is key in defeating this disease. |
Kathy thanks for researching this. I tried researching but didn't get the info that you found. I have wondered all week if the vaccine could have caused this. Maggie is very healthy, then she gets the vaccine and a few days later she is sick. The vet at the EC did say the color of the diarrhea meant there was a presence of blood. I hope Buster & Maggie are ok and that Maggie continues to improve. She is not 100% but she has eaten and I did see her drink water a while ago. |
I am glad Maggie is showing signs of improvement. I hope she gets back 100 % real soon. |
