Just got back from Carlo's walk, now I will take Maxine for a walk. She walks a block, I carry here 4 blocks, and repeat. When she was young she could walk miles, now, she just puts on the breaks when she has had enough, besides, she likes to be carried. |
Just got back from the Vet as Carlo needed a Blood test and they warned me that his White Blood Cell Count will be WAY down, but that is natural for the new Chemo Drug he is on. Depending how low, he may now need antibiotics, and the vet will let me know later today. So far he has tolerated the drug and the new steroid, but he is getting real old, and not sure how much fight is still left in the old guy. Then again, people said that about me, and I am still here. He will get another blood test in 2 weeks, to see if he is in shape to get his next Lomustine Chemo Drug Pill. The Vet tech told me that they had a female Cane Corso in there yesterday, and she was thinking that she was as nice as carlo. She approched it and the dog flashed her teeth, growled, and did not want anything to do with anyone, and had to be restrained for her exam as she fought the entire time. Socialization, and so glad I spend so much time doing it for him. |

Hoping that he continues to do well with the medication, he really is gorgeous. |
Carlo's Primary Vet called with his blood test results from this morning. She said his White cell count dropped from an average of about 6000 down to 3700, but she actually thought it would be a lot lower, or as she said, "Scary Lower". He Liver Enzyme Test came back perfect, again, she was surprised. He goes back in for another Test on Nov 30, and then on Dec 1, he will get another 100MG of Lomustin, the Chemo Drug. He will get a dose of it every 3 weeks, for 3 doses, and then go on a 6 week schedule. The Vet said he is doing much better than expected with all he has been thru, but that we are no where near out of the woods. |
Carlo is SuperDog!!! :) |
sounds like encouraging news! keep up the good work Carlo! |
I love when vets are suprised, in a good way :D |
He is on his way outta the woods though! What to go big guy. xoxo Carlo |
Keep up the good fight Carlo |
I'm glad Carlo continues to do good. That's because he wants to continue to hang around his great dad!:) |
This brakes my heart. im glade the vets had good news! he is a strong boy and you are a great dad! :) |
Steve, I knew that Carlo had been ill from previous posts. I have not been on YT much lately as I have taken on a part time job in the evenings and weekends. As such, I am just now seeing this. My heart goes out to you and your family. I will keep you and Carlo in my thoughts and prayers. Although the latest news you received from the vet is very encouraging indeed! Keep up with the positive attitude, I'm sure Carlo senses it! |
Had a blood test today, and his white cell count is back up to 9000, and all of the other panels look great, so I can give him his 2nd Cancer Pill (Ceenu) on Wed. Then he goes back in next week for another Blood test, and 2 weeks later when he gets his 3rd pill. After that he will get a Ultrasound and X-Ray. Carlo's vet said she has never seen such a strong dog with a will to live as him. Said most would be gone already at his age and illness. There is a lot of fight in Carlo. Maxine senses it, and is even being nicer to him. |
