Her AMY was 313 (200-1200). Couldn't see anything listed to resemble Lipase HGB was 17.5 (12.0 - 18.0) The blood panel was taken about 1 hr. after the bloody poop. HCT was 51.1 (37.0 - 55.0) (These two are at the higher end) |
So all was within normal limits! The important question now is: How is she?? |

I hope Zhoie eats the TOTW and loves it. I'm going to Petco tomorrow and see what kind of foods they have. They have more than PetSmart. Her regular vet told me a while back to take her off of BB because of the high protein and that may have been what was causing her mucousy poops. |
So happy to hear that Betty Boop is doing better tonight!! :) |

You may want to check out Castor Pollux if you are going to Petsmart or Petco. It got good reviews from The Whole Dog Journal. The Dog Food Advisor gave it great reviews, too. She has gotten better throughout the day. She's still not 100%, but I think she will be fine. We're going to her regular vet tomorrow. Her chills didn't last long, maybe 30 minutes or so. I took her temp and it was 99. Not sure if that is considered too low or not. I'm taking it again before bed tonight. Quote:

That is the food I use and my pups do very well on it! :) Some of them love the little dried fruits and veggies and pick them out first....very cute. :) |

I don't keep her food in an airtight container, but am buying one tomorrow. I guess I'm just punchy about the food because of the recall, although hers wasn't in it. Thanks for your post and well wishes. I'm glad your babies are doing good. |

Thank you so much! Me, too!! She's not acting like herself at all today. She has allergies and usually can't control the scratching at times, but today she hasn't had the energy to scratch at all. |

I'm going to Petco tomorrow morning. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll look into it. I really would like to start her on a different kibble. |
I'm so, so happy she is feeling better. I know my little guy has had less severe episodes of these bloody stools, but not like this past time. He was really sick and it happened so fast. It sounds like Betty Boop is over the hump and on her way to feeling better. I know my vet told me that my baby would have just kept getting worse - he was not turning the corner at all. Give her a belly rub from all of her YorkieTalk friends and get some rest! There is nothing more stressful than having a sick little one. |
I hope she feels better soon. |
so sorry to hear about Betty Boop! I hope she is feeling better soon!! I went through a similar episode with Meiah...they ran every test imaginable and never did figure it out. She has never had it happen again so we don't know what really caused her to go into shock. She is fine now TG!! I hope they can give you some answers so you at least know what to watch for. That is the frustrating part is the not knowing what happened so you can prevent it again. Sending puppy prayers for little BB!! :hands: |
Just seeing this now... poor little Boop! Quote:

(Bacteria or any intestinal inflamation can cause bleeding/bloody poops.) Maybe try taking her out on a leash to help control what she puts in her mouth, or clean an area that you can keep free of tasty debri and fence it in. Branches fallen from trees can have molds and fungi on them. Sure hope she's feeling better.... |

Thanks for the suggestion. You are right.....I don't need to make any changes right now. Things in the yard are only going to get worse when the leaves and limbs begin falling more. Ugh! The leaves have only turned ever so slightly. The squirrels (tons of them) are knocking the pecans still in the shell to the ground. It's just a mess! I'll have to walk her on a leash until everything stops dropping to the ground, which won't be for some time. I'm calling the vet today. I'll give him enough time to start his Monday and time to read the fax from the ER vet. I'll let everyone know. |
Update Betty Boop seems to be on the mend!:D:thumbup: She is acting so much livelier. She ate a lot this morning, but still won't drink much water, which is not like her. She even brought a toy to me to get me to play with her. This makes me feel so much better. Just wish I knew what caused it. |
Personally, if it were my pup and I felt uncomfortable with her food, I would change it immediately! I have changed many pups over the years without any issues. Yes, sometimes, they get a few loose stools here and there; but we are talking about a pup who very well might be ill from her food! So...as I said, I would change it now. I have a lot of pups on this food and they all do well...I take in pups often and don't have the luxury of knowing what they were on previously....do I have problems with feeding them Castor and Pollux? No. |
So glad she is feeling much better! My vet tells me I may NEVER know what causes it...they tell me I will just need to watch him like a hawk! I personally think it was something he ate in the yard or maybe a bad batch of food....but, who knows... |
So glad Betty is feeling better. Just an FYI, but quite a few years ago, I had a foster dog that had bloody poop and it was caused from hookworms. Not only that, the first treatment didn't get rid of them. She had to be treated three or four times before the hookworms were gone for good. |

I am concerned about her having a bowel movement only once since Saturday (8:30 p.m.) and it was a small one. Her vet didn't seem too concerned about it. I asked him if I should continue to give her the anti-diarrhea paste and he said "yes". The ER vet said she's never known it to cause constipation in a dog. Anyone - What is your opinion on this? I talked with Betty Boop's vet this afternoon. He said it would be OK to change her over to a new food, but to do it slowly......give her a few small meals each day, instead of 2 larger ones like I do. It seems like there is always some kind of recall going on that makes us doubt what to feed our babies. Darned if you do and darned if you don't. |

I just wanted to thank each and every one of you who posted. It sure did help me get through this ordeal with Betty Boop. Such great ideas from everyone!! I'm thinking this "Yorkie family" is the greatest! :thumbs up:yorkietal |
So happy to hear she is doing better!:) |
This is such good news!:) |
I know:exclaim: I'm so happy:exclaim: :dogsm2: |
It's been 48 hours and she finally POOPED. :woof: I think I saw a smidgen of blood, but I'm not going to worry about it. I believe the antibiotics will take care of it. It has already done wonders for her. :yay_jump: |
