Poppy ate a slug. I let Poppy out into the garden for potty, when she came back in I could tell she was sort of avoiding me. I looked at her and could see she was spying on me from behind the chair, and keeping her distance... this was when I knew she was upto no good. I could see her mouth was slightly open and that there was something inside. I walked up to her and said "GIVE" but she ran away, I chased her around the living room for a few minutes before she started to eat whatever was in her mouth. A little bit of her disgusting meal fell out of her mouth while she was chewing, I picked it up with a tissue and it looked like part of a slug. Disgusting little lady she is! :thumbdown:eek: That was about an hour or so ago, and she has just been sick. The sick looked like mushed up slug... dont think she will be doing that again! |
As gross as this may have looked for you....It made me chuckle!! I can picture every bit of the episode because Lucky is the same way when he's up to no good!!!! hahahahah Hope she don't throw up again though....yukkie!! |
:D Just being a yorkie, mom! |
Yuck! Maybe she needs to saute it in butter next time! Ohh poor Poppy and poor you for having to clean it up! Ewww...........:dribble: |
I had to laugh a little too. Mine have to try everything too. Course escargot is on the finest restaurant menus, so who's gross now? |
Atleast she was sick on her pee pad, she must have sensed my anger and tried to get into my good books LOL :) Although when I said GIVE I didnt mean an hour later covered in sick... |
Mocha just loves slugs and snails....like someone said above, just being a yorkie :D |
EWIEEE!!! i would have FREAKED OUT if that was Hazel. LOL. |
Eew a slug!!! Just as long as Poppy is OK that's what's important. |
Doesn't seem to bother the average French person...LOL |

My two Chihuahuas ate slugs a lot over the years. They seemed to like the dead dried ones best. (Slug jerky, yucky!) We always knew when it happened because their tummies made meowing sounds and we would always joke that they had a kitty in their tummies because that is exactly what it sounded like. They would refuse to eat their dinners when their tummies meowed so we always knew what happened. Other than that they never suffered any ill effects, didn’t even vomit, just refused to eat for a day. I always hoped they would learn and quit eating them but my oldest is 13 and he still grabs one occasionally. They must be tasty! |
our vet said that the slugs would not hurt the dog when Sunshine decided he liked to eat them . We found that water does not clean off slug slime it makes it worse . So we used vinegar , it works great and I think it cured him from wanting to eat them . He really hated the vinegar . |

I will keep it in mind for next time (hopefully there isnt a next time :) ) |
Sandy has eaten a slug before  I've to chase him around, offering him some Cheerio so that he'd spit it out. Too late! |
Well, that's pretty gross but at least it's not a gecko tail flopping around in her mouth. Yep, Harlie has had 2 geckos that I know of...crunch, crunch. YUK! |
I had to laugh but Poppy does the same thing like my Kinder. She runs and peeks around a chair if she has something in her mouth. The worst thing Kinder ate was a toad poop; how gross. My puppy will eat anything she can get a hold of on the ground so we have to watch her. I am sure Kinder would love to try a slimy appetizing slug too. Have fun with your baby. |
Dont want to freak anyone out BUT i was listening to metro radio tonight and i heard this advert about cats and dogs who eat snails an slugs are under risk of catching LUNG WORMS which can be deadly. It made me stop and think becuase there are alot of snails and slugs around the grass of my house so thats why i payed so much attention to it. Please beweare if you dog eats a snail or slug as they might catch lung worms. :( Hope little Poppy is ok xxxx |

Hopefully, because Poppy has been sick, she will be fine. Just keep an eye on her, and phone the vet if she doesnt seem her usual self..xx |
We get loads of snails in our garden. I use to like them, but now with 2 dogs, i collect them all up and put them in my green wheelie bin with the garden stuff. They dont seem to mind, and i try not to think about what happens to them after that! I have to put my dogs first. |
GASP ! ! ! Good thing we don't really have those around here. i haven't seen them in years! i hope poppy is fine! |
just keep an eye on her , i heard on the local radio that dogs can catch lung worms from eating slugs  love jill n poppy xx :aimeeyork |
Oh no :( |
I found this: Dog owners - Be lungworm aware Im going to ring my vet in the morning and tell him she might have eaten a slug. It says it can be treated with a spot on treatment. |
Admin or mod could we please have a sticky made about lung worm? I had never heard of it before now and its quite serious by the looks of things. With the wet weather coming more slugs and snails will be about and I feel this is something we should warn people of! |
