Poppy got stung, been at vets... not good :( I'm so upset right now its been a horrible day. About 2pm i get a phone call off my OH saying Poppy had been stung by a wasp and is now lying on the floor not moving and drooling from the mouth. I rush home where he is holding poppy waiting for me outside (good job i live 2mins from work) and we rush poppy to the vet 2mins drive away. I run in and the nurse wraps her in a blanket. Poppy looks like she is druged up responding al ittle but not much and it was like all the life i had seen a few hours ago had been sucked out of her. The nurse went to touch her mouth to see if she was swollen and poppy screamed with pain, she was in ALOT of pain. I burst out crying i hated that sound i felt so helpless and thought i was going to lose her. They called the vet who was out at the time and he came straight back and took over. They took her into this room where he had to check her mouth and throat for swelling. She screamed again and i just talked to her hoping my voice would calm her alittle. It was all so scary for her and for me! They got out the sting and what we think was the poision from her mouth. He then weighed her and gave her two shots. One was steriods for the pain (which he told me he would only be giving her today and if she needs something for the pain tomorrow it would have to be something different as she was to small) He then gave her another shot as he said the wasp sting is dirty so she didnt get an infection. He told me to keep an eye on any swelling she might have and if she gets any swelling on her throat to rush her back. He checked her all over and her heart and everything must have been ok because he let her some home. Oh he also checker her eyes and stuff. She came home and i put her in her crate and she fell right asleep and has only really got up a few times when i have been home. She gave me kisses before so her mouth must be feeling better with the pain killers kicking in (that might also be why she is tired) Been a very upsetting day really. I was going out to meet friends tonight but i have cancelled and i am staying in to look after my little girl! She has an appointment at 9am in the morning tomorrow for a check up so please pray my little Poppy is going to be ok. I am so so worried about her :( She is not her normal happy little self and is just sleeping. Ugh i am so worried i dont like this at all :( |
I am so sorry this happened to Poppy. Luckily your husband was home when it happened. I am sure she is just tired from the medicine. Please try not to worry. (I know, that is easier said than done.) Please keep us posted on how she is doing. |
Prayers and  |
Oh - I am so sorry! I wouldn't worry about the sleeping. It is probably the pain meds - I know I sleep when I take my pain meds (which is why I try to avoid taking them) I will keep Poppy in my prayers. I know it is easily said but try not to worry too much. If it had been necessary the vet would have kept her overnight. Just take her back in the morning for her appointment and let us know how our little Poppy is. |
How horrible for poor Poppy. It sounds like you were a very good mom and took immediate action by rushing her to your vet. Hopefully all she needs is a little rest and time to be back to her self. Please keep us updated how she is doing. |
Thanks everyone, it was so scary :( my OH rang me and told me poppy was by his feet in the livingroom and she started screeching and a wasp was near her dead on the floor. then she fell on her side and wouldnt move or respond and was drooling from mouth. :( the vet did say if he was to worried he would have kept her in, but its so hard not to worry with her being so sleepy :( i dont like it ~sob sob~ |
:( Poor baby (and Mommy!) Sounds like you did everything exactly right, and little Poppy will be back to herself in no time. I'm sure she's just sleepy from the meds...and just think, if she's sleeping soundly, she must not really be in pain any longer. Sleep tight and please update on her tomorrow. :) |
Oh no! How horrible for poor Poppy and you and OH! Keeping you all in my prayers for a complete recovery for Poppy! |
Poor Poppy, but I really think she will be ok. I also wouldn't worry about her sleeping. I'm certain it's the meds. Max has taken lots of meds before and on day 1 he slept the whole day and the next day he was more active. Let her rest and just give her lots of love, which I'm sure a good mommy like you is already doing. |
poppy weighed in at 2.8lb at 13 1/5 weeks |
Bless her little heart. I'm sure she'll be fine. She probably won't feel like herself for a day or two, though. She probably tried to pick it up with her mouth. Kacee got two wasp stings on her ear when she was tiny, but she was alright. Hugs to you and we'll be watching to see how Poppy is doing. |
I just mashed up some wet dog food for her and added a little bit of water to it to make it sloppy for her to eat and she is just eating it now. So thats a good sign. xxx |
Poor baby. Hope she gets over it quickly. Kudos to you for getting her to the vet so quickly. And big hugs to you. You've had a horrible scare and I don't blame you for being unnerved. But as you said, the vet wouldn't have sent her home if he thought she needed more medical attention. |
Yes, it's a very good sign that she's eating. You'll see her get better little by little. It is just that she is so tiny that everything is magnified when something bad happens. Take care... |
praying She is in my prayers today. Hugs and kisses to you both. I can not imagine how traumatic it was for you both. |
:bighug: GREAT BIG HUG!!! How how scary!!! Praise God that she was not alone when she was stung and you were able to get her to the vet so quickly! That is a true blessing! We will keep Poppy in our prayers. Peggy, Monkey & Monkey :daisy: |
Oh god thats so scary! Glad shes okay! Will be sending love and prayers to little Poppy xxx |
Thanks everyone. She is on me now, not asleep just snuggled into my arm looking all cute. Shes a little restless like she cant get comfy :( poor little girl xxx |
I'm so sorry, I can imagine how frightened you were. My Murphy was stung in the neck/throat by a wasp a couple of months ago and it was horrifying. Thank God he was sitting right next to me when it happened because he also collapsed immediately and began struggling to breathe. The doctor was able to help him, and Murphy came home just a few hours later. He was back to normal in a day or two, just as I'm sure Poppy will be. Sending hugs and prayers to you and Poppy, Bonny |

OH just told me she fell on her side and he picked her up and put her back on the floor and she leaned forward onto her head and was resting on her head not responding. So scary. I just put her on the floor and she has done a poop and a wee on her puppy pad so again all good signs. Shes now wondering around the livingroom. I am watching her wondering if she is gonna play with her toys or not because she has just found a bit of her dry food on the floor in the kitchen and she got all ecited and is carrying it around in her mouth. She has not eaten it yet as i think it will hurt her eating it. She is starting to perk up thank goodness. God knows what i must have looked like in that vets office today haha! I ran in sobbing asking the receptionist to help me my dog had been stung by a wasp. When i seen the nurse walking out i burst into tears and asked her to help. She wraped poppy in a blanket and tryied to look at her mouth and poppy just started yelping. The moment she started yelping i reallyed started to get very upset and sob. It was a horrible pain sound. she just wanted to be on me so the nurse gave her back to me and she snuggled into me whimpering. When the vet came he must have thought omg heres one hysterical owner lol. Poppy was very good when she had her temp taken and he checked her eyes etc but started yelping really bad when he took out the sting with tweezers and had her shots. It was a horrible feeling i love Poppy so so much i really thought when i picked her andmy OH up that she was goner the way was she was totally out of it. She is now a little more perky and walking around the livingroom xxx |
She has just started playing with her toy biting it!!!!! Omg i am so happy!!!!!!!!!! |
I'm so sorry. I know how scary it is when this happens. My doxie got stung when he was a few months old and had an allergic reaction. It was a terrifying thing to watch. Thankfully your OH was there to see what happened and help you get help quickly. Hopefully Poppy will be back to normal in no time. |

Poor Poppy, what a day she's had. I'm sure she will be back to usual self in a day or too when the swelling is all gone!! Best wishes to you and Poppy!! |

Oh, poor baby, so sorry this happened to sweet Poppy and to you both too! How very scary for all 3 of you. So happy your DH was with her and you could respond so quickly, I'm sure that made a world of difference. I'm sure she is on her way to a quick recovery now. Give Poppy lots of kisses for me & Zhoie. |
I am so glad Poppy is okay. Brandi gave me a scare too. She started choking so I know what you went through. Afterwards, I all could do was hug her. Sometimes hate that I love her so much because I know how painful it would be if I were to lose her. Of course it's not something I think about often but I did when she was choking. Who would of thought that these little stinkers could invoke so much love? |
