Bee Sting on Foot I just found a bee on my Yorkie and he's was limping around, not crying, but I looked and saw a stinger in the pad of his foot... I pulled the stinger out with tweezers. Is there anything I should be aware of...if it gets swollen etc? Anything I should do for him? He keeps licking his paw...it's obviously irritated, but he's not crying in pain luckily... :( Poor baby |
So sorry no one saw this sooner. I hope your pupster is ok. Here is a recent thread with some ideas: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sic...bee-sting.html You could try to apply ice packs to it .. just for short periods. |
I don't think I can help, but I would give mine Benadryl. |
My lil Muffin got a slight sting on her foot once when she was just walking thru the grass. I don't think it was a full sting though. She was fine. You can always make a little ice pack and apply it for a little bit. She should be just fine after a bit. |
Ah poor baby! Good that you saw the stinger before it could get broken off. I would go with Benedryl too, if it seems to be bothering him. I have used 1/4 of a 25 mg tablet. I have heard that the liquid type has too much alcohol in it for pets. (Internet reading not from vet). I have also read that only 1 mg per pound of body weight, but I haven't gotten it broken down that far. To be safe, might want to check with vet for his suggested dose. Walmart sells these little vials and wipes for bee stings. They have a numbing agent in them. They work great for people stings, so I think they would work for the pups too. |
Note: You shouldn't use tweezers to pull out stings, for humans or pups. It can squeeze out more venom into the system, which can increase reaction or swelling. You should scrap it off using something like a credit card. Icing on and off is what you do for humans, don't know about pups. So sorry for your baby! Hope the little guy is feeling better! <3 |
Aw Im sorry to hear that :( I would probably keep the area clean and put an ice pack on as other members have mentioned. Keep an eye on it and if it seems to get worse or infected take him to the vet. |

1. It should say "scrape," not "scrap" 2. "Icing on and off," meaning 20 minutes on 20 minutes off for a human, don't know about pups. :) |
