I've been looking for your update, too! I am so glad he is doing better. I am sure those back legs will come around soon  He just looks like a doll in that brace with the heart on the back. I'm sure it is frustrating for him to wear, but it sounds like he is getting lots of attention/distraction from it! I will surely be keeping ya'll in my thoughts and prayers for a complete recovery :) |
It is so good to see pictures of Skeeter! Thanks so much for sharing and your story made my day about he wanted all the attention. What a great little guy! :) |
OH Skeeter this is such wonderful news.... You look adorable in you little brace outfit. The "Yorkie Gang" and I wish you a speedy recovery... Hugs and kisses to you. |
Bless that little angels heart - he looks great and his brace just adds to his cuteness - who couldn't kiss that little face - you must be so estatic !!! I'm so happy to hear he will be coming home and congratulations on a sucessful surgery - what a hard thing to go thru and he is just a DOLL!! YAY Skeeter - you go boy ! |
I'm so glad that hes doing better! I hope he only continues to improve with physical therapy! Best of luck! You two are in my prayers! |
I am so glad Skeeter is doing so well. He looks like a little doll in his brace. I am sure with the therapy his back legs will be just fine. |
Great News Gloria I was thinking about Skeeter all day and am so glad to hear he is moving his front legs - don't worry about the back legs they will come in time. Have you had a chance to check out Vet services for daycare? As I said, I highly recommend it especially for the 1st couple of weeks - this will definately put my mind at ease. Again, I'm here for any questions and all the support you need to help in Skeeter's recovery. p.s. The pics are so sad but sweet at the same time and he looks just like Sedrick did in the 1st pic - totally corked!! |
I'm so glad to hear that Skeeter is doing well. He is just he cutest, sweetest little puppy. He is lucky to have such a loving and caring family. Many people, unfortunately, would not have made the sacrafices you did you ensure Skeeter will hopefully lead a normal life. It is a blessing to see that little face. He is the cutest worm I have ever seen!!! So happy to hear the update. Please keep us posted on any new news!!! |

Great news. I'm so glad he is on the mend. Hopefully he will be back or close to 100% before too much longer. |
Hi Lorraine, What did you feed Sedrick while he was in his neckbrace? Did you feed him babyfood? No I haven't actually. We have other people who are able to take care of Skeeter when we can't. They do look the same in their pictures! But it's so adorable! Thank you Quote:

Bless his little heart!!!! He is adorable and I am so glad he is doing better!! Joy |
I'm so glad that the surgery went well! He is such a trooper. I will keep you guys in my thoughts and prayers, and hopefully VERY soon he will have a full recovery! ;) |
We had Sedrick on pureed chicken baby food for the 1st few days and then switched him to a low residue food to aid in digestion. We found that the steroids that they administered him reaked havoc on his digestive tract(this is a very common problem when steroids are administered.) |
Bump!! I'm just now reading this... How's Skeeter???? |
Hi Is it normal for him to be crying and whining all night? His stomach is gurgling like crazy. He keeps crying and I'm not sure if it's normal. I called and left a message at the hospital so I'm just waiting for a call back. I feel so helpless right now, I don't know what to do. He stopped crying for a little while, but that was a while ago. he's letting out a lot of gas too. He's also making gurgling noises with his nose/throat. He was like this when I picked him up from the hospital. The Dr told me she thinks he's just uncomfortable and stressed out because she walked away with him and he stopped crying. If anyone's awake, please help. |
The crying and whining is what Sedrick did alot of for the 1st maybe 2 weeks and yes it is because he is very stressed, don't forget how active Skeeter was before the trauma. What I found best was to hold him and walk the floor like youwould a baby and he will eventually calm down. He just needs to know that you are there. The stomach is probably a result of not eating for a few days and this should calm down once is intestines get used to having food in them. Has he had a bowl movment since surgery? The nose/throat is he snorting liquid out his nostrils? Our vet said this was the result of having the tubes stuck down and should stop in a few days. Keep on eye on though incase it becomes worse as it might have potential to turn into a pnuemonal like problem. Be rest assured that even though you are frustated it is all downhill from here. The tiny little improvements you will start to see will far outweigh your feelings of despair. |
I feel so bad for your worries and concerns and for Skeeter's uncomfortableness. I pray each new day gets better and better. I am so glad that you found someone that can walk you through this. I know vets are very busy and that is sometimes the feeling you get when you feel like you are going to die if you don't get an answer in 10 seconds or less. With Lorraine, you are getting very clear information with an understanding and helpful concern that you need right now. Thank you Lorraine for being there for her. The rest of us can only guess or say how sorry we feel for them. |
Thank you so much for replying to me so quickly!! I realized that Skeeter would stop crying when I held him and walked around. But eventually, it stopped working. He cried and screamed all night and I couldn't do anything about it except hold him, but he threw a tantrum and was all over the place. At least I know he can move all of his legs. When he gets mad he kicks all of legs. The Dr called me this morning around 9. She told me exactly what Lorraine wrote to me. She suggested I try Pediatric Benadril. We gave him .5 ml and he's knocked out cold right now. The Dr told us we can give Benadril to him 3x a day to calm him down. I didn't know if he was in pain or just angry. I felt much better reading your responses. Thank you. |

I know how scary this has been for you. I'm so glad that he seems to be doing better. He is probably just mad because he can't move the way he wants and I'm sure he is probably in a little pain. |
Hang in there, Skeeter will show signs of improvement daily. It is so hard to see our little babies upset and in pain. Pretty soon he will be just as good as new. |
He's probably just frustrated that he can't move around like he wants to. But just keep showering him with attention and he will get better. Yorkies are very emotional, also. He wants your undivided attention. My Chewy had Valley Fever last year and we had to force feed her, among other things. But, she would lay around and cry a lot. When they don't feel well, they let us know. I spent a lot of time just holding her and reassuring her. I will continue to keep you guys on my praryer list. Things will look up. Thank God he's made it this good so far! Hang in there! |
Sometimes the medicine they give them can sort of tear up their stomachs and my vet told me I could give mine half a Tums. If his stomach continues to rumble, you might ask your vet about it for him... Glad to see he's moving about. You can't keep 'em down for long. ;) |
We took Skeeter to get rebandaged last night. The neurologist said he is doing very well. Skeeter tries to walk on his own a lot, which is great. He's a fighter! We got him a baby playpen to keep him safe. He seems to like it. We will post pics again. Thank you for everything!! |
Great news for Skeeter! :bravo: |
Good news! :D So glad to hear. |
I am so glad to see Skeeter came out of surgery ok. It is going to be a long tough road for you...but you are a wonderful mommy to do this for Skeeter...you and your family are in my families prayers! |
So glad to hear he's improving! We look forward to seeing pics :) |
