Pedialyte?
 
Rosie is 9 weeks old, she's been having diarrhea since last night. She has become lethargic and much less responsive. Assuming she's dehydrated, should I try cutting her water with some unflavored pedialyte? Has anyone tried this before? What else can I do? :(

She is very young and at extreme risk of dehydration. She needs to see a vet immediately.

She needs to see a vet now they will need to give her fluids through IV

Have you made an appointment yet? She needs to get in ASAP. Ask your vet what you can be doing in the meantime.

You can try syringing him pedialyte. Its my opinion that he is beyond that though and needs to be on an Iv. Little pups go down quick and if he is already unresponsive he is going down. All vets will take emergency appointments and this is an emergency

You could give pedialyte, but since her GI system isn't doing well, anything by mouth could potentially make her nauseous. If that happens and she starts to throw up, then she will be in bigger trouble. So I can't recommend that you do it without vet supervision. Because she is so young (and probably really tiny), has had diarrhea for over twelve hours, and is lethargic, this may be quite serious if not taken care of asap.

And if you give him pedialyte while hes unresponsive how do you know he wont aqspirate on it. This is time for a vet not home fixes

okay, thank you guys so much. she's 1 lb 12oz, shes a little more lively now but I'm still worried and will get her to a vet asap!

it has been over an hour since you first posted and got excellent advice.
Please tell me that you are getting her to the vet NOW!!!

I would be at the vet's already, not waiting for responses on here!

If you were having a heart attack, would you expect your family to be on the computer looking for help instead of getting you to the ER??????

There are some instances where you can have the luxury of waiting for forum members advice on treatment. This is not one of them.

I'm well aware that this is a serious matter and that she needs to get to a vet as soon as possible, but I have to wait for my mother to get out of work (not for another hour.) I'm 17 and I don't have a car. I'm doing what I can..

Just get her to the vet as soon as possible. Its a good sign to me that she is more lively. Im sorry if I scared you with my posts I didnt realize you were so young. It is just when we get posts like yours and we know the dog needs to be at the vet and its urgent well those posts are scary

Its alright, I've been observing this site for a while now and learning a lot, she's my first yorkie and my first puppy in general, so I'm trying my best!
