Andy's Leg I'm going to be honest here .I try not to do posts about Andy for a reason I see in here . People post for help, support, comfort and to give it but quite a bit I see people not supporting but instead their being sarcastic, putting each other down, Please don't get mad I'm just saying it as I see it . Andy and I love this place dispite that and now it's us reaching for some ideas and support . Andy has hurt his leg jumping off the couch . He won't put any weight on it and don't try to move it for him he cries , Vet said he twisted it . He put him on glucosamine . I am sure some of your babies this has happened to ,Do you have any additional idea's I could use to help him get better ? Thanks |
I think there is far more good than there is bad here at YT. If your dog is still in pain and not putting weight on his leg, I would return to the vet or seek a second opinion from another vet. |
how long ago did he hurt it. I would guess a sprain is going to take a while until he will use it again. Sorry that he is hurt. Did he give him anything for pain? |
I don't know anything about glucosomine, mine was given Rimadyl. Is glucosomine an anti-inflamatory? I would give Andy 3 or 4 weeks and have him seen again if he's not doing better. Mine limped with no pain and he had legg-perthes. It takes some time to diagnose that, to see if it gets worse or doesn't improve. I too can understand your views about some of the replies. Take the good with the bad. Good luck to you and your little guy! :) |
Isn't glucosamine a supplement for joints? I'm not sure that is enough for his leg right now. He should be on some sort of inflammatory IMO. |

Seriously, the dog had a petrified look on his face, I felt terrible. He's ok with a bath, when he can keep all 4 feet planted, but when that was gone he was terrified. I know vet's vary on information and how to's. I read earlier where heartworm prevention shouldnt be started for 6 months. Our new pup was started at 8 1/2 weeks. Our Yorkie was started at 4 months. Mosquitos are EVERYWHERE down here. My husbands vet told him Advantage multi wasn't effective if you bathe them more than twice a month. My vet told me a bath a week would be fine (unless its medicated shampoo) and not effect the medicine. Seems every vet has a different view. :D I seriously hope Andy feels better very soon!! :) |

As far as the heartworm med. The med is designed to kill the adult heartworm not the larvae, it takes 6 months for the worm to mature. Giving heartworm med to a pup under 6 months of age is doing nothing. |
That's what I did, fill up a garden tub. He hated every second of it and looked as if I were trying to kill him. I don't know about the heartworm meds, I just do what the experts tell me. It may be futile. |

I just heard on the news yesterday that people in the Florida Keys are now fighting another mosquitoe carrying disease.....The Dengue Fever...there are no meds to fight it. Don't know what adverse affect it has on animals. I do follow the experts advice, however, I'm very fortunate that the vet I use in Texas is very thorough in explaining and listening to me. He sits on the board of Veterinary Medicine and works closely with Dr. Center. He knows that I participate actively with their vet care and research everything. |
Thankyou so much everyone for all your help .I will call the vet in the morning and ask about metcam . I have kept him quiet all day watching movies with me etc and using pee pads instead of going outside promoting excitement . He did this yesterday jumped off the couch the little monkey . I have stairs for him to use .I will sit with him for however long this takes .He's my little boy . |

I should add, that since May 25th, since his surgery, I haven't paid for one single follow up. He tells me when I go out the door, no charge for today. Laci, I'm really glad he's not in a lot of pain. An anti-inflamatory probably woudn't hurt. :) |
