Can't childrens Motrin be given in a pinch? Maybe a 1/4 of a teaspoon? I know lots of human meds can be given to dogs. Motrin is ibuprofen based, and anti inflamatory? |

Ahh. I didn't know Benadryl was the same! Good to know. This is my first dog in years, but when I had my other little girl I could give her anything from Tylenol to Keopectate in a pinch. Of course that was 9 years ago. |

I think tylenol is even bad for humans, liver issues and such. Sorry for even suggesting it. My daughter had her maltese spayed last week and she was sent home with no pain meds. I told her to go buy childrens Motrin. She didn't, and now I'm glad she didn't. |

And, always ask a vet about pain meds. Many of them do not prescribe them unless asked. For the life of me, I do not understand that; but it is very common. Have to wonder if these vets who don't prescribe would have their insides cut open and not take any pain meds. :( |

Hugs to you and Andy. Keep us informed. |
Glucosamine can act as an anti-inflammatory, but there are far better medications to use in the event of an acute injury. Metcam is what I usually use. Vinnie, my older yorkie, jumped off a bed about a year ago and really heart his elbow joint. I was certain it was broken, as he would not put any weight on it and acted as if he was just dying. My vet did x-rays and could not find a break anywhere. Anyway, my vet administered a pain shot and then we followed that up with Metcam and a lot of rest. I also got Vinnie to let me ice it (amazingly enough) for short periods of time. All this seemed to help and he was better within a week. |
