He is feeling much better! He ate some fish, rice, pumpkin; took his supplements and his metranidazole! He's even been a tad playful. I feel like I have a new lease on life now that Bailey feels better!

Oh this is SUCH good news!! What a relief. I can just imagine what you went through. We are just like that if Tootsy is not well - I cry my eyes out, if I am worried about her. In fact, even my daughter will drive down to us (over an hour from where she lives) after work, to see Tootsy if she is unwell!! They are our babies, aren't they, and we feel just as anxious as we would if they were human babies and unwell. In fact, I think it is worse, as they are so little that you fear that any illness might take them from us.

I will pray for a complete recovery for Bailey, although it does seem as though he is over the worst and will now go from strength to strength.

I was bawling my eyes out for hours to Bailey telling/begging him to hang on for mommy!!! I was grounded to the couch for a day and a half (which of course I diddn't care) but I was so scared! My best friend offered to go do my errands for me. I appreciate everyone's well wishes, prayers and concern for Bailey because it was YT that helped me to get through it!!!! I don't know what I would have done without this community!!!!

I'm sorry to hear about Bailey - I just am seeing this now. My Barney has had two life threatening bouts of pancreatitis. Both were caused by eating canned dog food. Barney recently had pancreatitis this year (in March)- he was very sick also. It took him a while to really get back to himself. We had to keep him on pain medication, antibiotics, antacids and antinausea medication for a while. The first day, he ate only ice cubes. The second day, he ate two tablespoons of chicken and rice 4x a day, and then we gradually increased his food over the course of a week. He lost 1 lb in a week. Pancreatitis is a scary one, and it is very hard on the dog (and the owner!!). I'll never forget the feeling of seeing him in so much pain and I too had comfort in our YT community (it was LadyJane who was up late and was a friend to me when Barney was sick).

Barney is now a very low fat home cooked diet for the rest of his life and he is doing very well now. Every dog is different, but for a dog that has had pancreatitis more than once, you really need to be super strict on the food. Anything can set off the pancreas, and they just don't know all the foods that can set it off.
