I am sending prayers for you and Bailey. I hope he gets stronger everyday. Everyone at YT will be praying for him |

He needs to be at the vet on an IV (IMO). I'm so sorry. :( I know pancreatitis and IBD are so difficult. He sounds a bit too sick for sq fluids alone. Is he vomiting? How long was he fasted? |
|
he's not vomiting just having a little of the runs here and there now. he ate half his food this morning and some pumpking this morning. Then I took him to the vet and around 1:00 he had about 2 tbs of rice and a bunch of water. Now he is just laying on the couch. He's just not acting like himself. He's peeing which I think is good? He barks when my fiance leaves the house which he didn't do when we first got home. He can jump up on the couch now which he couldn't do when I brought him home from the vet. I just feel helpless because he won't eat any of his favorites like banana or pumpkin or anything else, he just turns his little head. Quote:

His pancreas should be rested now. It is probably a good thing that he won't eat. Did a SNAP cPL come back abnormal or is the diagnosis based just on the fact that he has had it before? Are his gums pink and wet? It can be so hard to get these pups on the right diet. Have any rx diets been tried? What % fat is the NB? |

I'm so sorry Chandra that Bailey is so sick :( I don't have any experience with this but I do know when Stormy had the Nair incident the vet told us just to give her water and pedialyte and hold off food for a couple days. Would that be okay to give him pedialyte? Or force some water down. Maybe it's best for him to let his tummy rest. I'll keep him in my thoughts, hope he feels better soon. |

Yes a full blood panel was done, so we could tell it's a flare up of pancreatitiis. I was so fried when I left that I forgot to get a copy of the report. I think this is because my dad gave him Peanut butter to give him his antibiotic to help with his penis problem last week. I didn't knwo that's what he was using. Now he knows not to use that or ANYTING with fat. My dad thought it was ok bc it was a little bit. I said NO AMT of fat is ever ok. He is barking at passerby's that's good, right? How do I check the fat content in his food???? His gums are pink and look somewhat normal. They are wet. The vet wanted to put him on an ID food but that's what he was on when he started the pancreatitis and he's been good for so long since I took him off that. It makes me feel better to know that maybe he knows that his little system needs to rest. Mother nature is also not helping right now and has given me a gift, so I'm a little sensitive too. Quote:

The peanut butter would make sense. We go through this sort of thing all the time. Even if something falls in the kitchen...there is a possible flare-up. Because he had sq fluids and isnt throwing up and his gums are wet, it doesn't sound like he is dehydrated. He may be very sick to his stomach and it can be very painful, so that is probably why he isn't eating. Hoping it was the PB so you don't have to change foods. The % fat would be on the NB website or on the back of the bag. I've been told no on the PediaLyte which I figured b/c it contains dextrose I think it is and with the pancreas and insulin and everything, there are probably better things to give... Turkey...ground sometimes has skin mixed in. Not something I would give, but I don't want to tell somebody to ignore their vet's advice either. I'd personally give fish instead since that's what he is used to, but there is no guarantee that that didn't cause the flare-up. |

Oh honey, I am so sorry little Bailey is going through this and of course, sending many prayers for a full & quick recovery! God speed. |
|
When the blood panel was done it did show he was also dehydrated. I didn't feel right about giving him the turkey, so I just ignored that. I didn't want to upset the applecart. I felt it was better to stay with the fish and rice. I'm starting to feel a little better now. I freak when we drop somthing on the floor, everyone goes flying (including Bailey) to get what was dropped. I'm so afraid of him getting sick. I constantly live in fear with this little guy... Thank you so much for all your help! Thank you everyone for your prayers, please keep them up! I'm hoping he does ok through the night! Quote:

The fact that he barks and jumps just shows that he is just a bit sick. Like humans, also dogs feel sick sometimes. Just keep him close and make sure he drinks water. Everything is going to be OK!! :) |
|
Maybe turkey baby food...Gerber Stage 2 only. Very bland. Barking, alertness is a good sign. Jumping up on the couch ... maybe he's not too painful. I think plain water would be best. If he gets lethargic and really out of sorts, back to the vet would be wise. I'll keep him in my prayers.... |
