That is so true! They may cost us a lot but they are worth every penny. They are priceless:) |
You may want to have her checked for diabetes. Sometimes it presents in some of the ways you described. You can never be too cautious. I hope she is ok! |

Update about Trixie.. She went back friday for a blood test to make sure all of her protein levels were doing good. Turns out that they were not. So yesterday we took her back for another blood test, and they did a urine test to see if she was 'getting rid' of good proteins that way. It turns out that she was. The vet says that this means that her liver isnt working. We have to take her to virginia tech on friday morning to do an ultrasound to see if it's the valve that carries toxins into the liver to filter them out of her body. More than likely, this is what's going on. The vet said they'll have to put a 'shunt' in the valve in her liver to open it up, to allow the proteins and other stuff to filter through. If we let this go without doing anything, her blood will poison her, resulting in seizures and brain damage..and then death. This was something she was born with. I'm kinda wondering if we got her from a bad breeder? But there's nothing we can do about that now. She's our baby and we're going to do everything we can to get her better! It's just sad that they'll have to open up her belly AGAIN. |
Are they saying she has a liver shunt? Or is this something entirely different? |
Yes, she has a liver shunt. I must've misnderstood. Our vet's accent is kind of hard to understand. |
misunderstood** I cannot type today! |
Lucy has liver issues that were diagnosed witha blood test. But she is not symptomatic so we treat her with a low protein diet and monitor her BAT's. One thing I remember my vet telling me was that ultrasounds aren't always reliable in diagnosing shunt . . so just be aware and ask lots of questions. I hope that you find out she doesn't have a shunt. Even if she does; however, she can still have a good life but I hope she doesn't need a 2nd surgery right away. Poor baby. |
I'm sorry to hear that Trixie may have liver shunt. She will be in my thoughts and prayers on Friday morning. Good luck. |
She had a blood & urine test done twice on monday. They said the ultrasound will determine if she has the shunt or not. Since her symptoms are pretty bad, she'll have to have surgery sometime next week. I'm just hoping this is something that can be fixed, and we wont have a problem with again. She's been fine today. She's been extremely hyper and playful (which is how we like her!) I just want her to be happy and healthy all the time! |
