Need advice- not yorkie related- from one of the rescue people My daughter nearly ran over a very, very small kitten. I'm guessing it is about 5-6 weeks old. We can't get in to our vet's until 5, but I'm wondering if it would be ok to give her/him some of the goats milk formula. She has zero interest in water. She's very thin and looks dehydrated (it's quite hot here today). We are sitting with her in a box in the garage because she has fleas- we've already picked out a ton with tweezers and the comb. I have no plans to keep her, my dd's boy friend may take her if she checks out with the vet. I just want to make her as comfortable as possible while we are waiting. Thanks. |
1 Attachment(s) Back from the vet. Dr. Candace estimates this little girl to be about 5 weeks old. She appears to have been recently dumped. She was a little dehydrated, so she got some subcutaneous fluids. Feline leukemia test was negative. We were able to bathe her and get the fleas off- the vet also put a dose of front line on her. She's taking canned food and gobbling it all up. She is a sweet heart, but there is no way I can possibly keep her. My daughter's boyfriend wanted to , but his mom said no. I'm not sure what I can do. I did put up a note on FB and have emailed a couple rescues. This is breaking my heart :( Any suggestions? |
Awww poor thing, she's precious. I would just think that if you can't personally find anyone to take her, contact your local petco, they always cat adoptions there, and the kittens always go fast. |

Put her picture with bio up at all the Vet. offices. Kittens really do go fast. |
cute little thing... hope you find a home for her fast! |
Oh! I've always wanted a white kitty! Let me see if my SIL is still in town... |
What a cute little kitty! I'm disappointed with some humans. How could they do that to such a cute little baby? I hope you find a good home for her. Have you given her a name yet? |

This is how I got my cat... someone dumped a whole litter outside in the dead of winter at 6 weeks old, because you know cats can fend for themselves  |

The little one is quite playful this evening. She's eating and drinking well and using her litter box like a champ. My daughter is calling her Juno. I'm worried about everyone becoming to attached to her if she stays for any length of time. Rhett and Scarlett are definitely bent out of shape right now. Scarlett has been very growly all afternoon. Guess she's telling me that she plans on staying the baby around here :) I haven't heard back from the rescues yet. But I will go back to the Vet in the a.m. and put up a sign there. One of my mom's co-workers is married to a petsmart trainer, so I will ask him what their procedure is as a back up. I'd hate to see her get put in a cage, even temporarily. She really is a little cuddle bug and deserves to go right in to a loving home. |
You could offer to foster her and ask shelters or Petsmart if they could do a courtesy posting for you. |

Bless your heart for taking care of this kitten. She is beautiful!! I wish you were close by so I could help you out with her. I do know a couple of cat people...plus my vet is always helpful in placing them. Hopefully, one of the rescues you emailed will get back with you. |

If we lived close by, I'd definitely take her in. She is adorable! I'm glad you were there to help her out. |
She is a sweet heart. I was holding out hope that one of my daughter's friends would be able to convince their parents to take her in. I still haven't heard back from any of the rescues, so tomorrow I will go hang a poster at a couple of local vet offices and petsmart. DD1 is working hard on getting us to keep her- but DD's 2 and 3 have red swollen eyes from being around her. Rhett broke through the gate on the stairs and ran up to my daughter's room today and Sam has been pacing and growling. Scarlett gives me the cold shoulder after I've been upstairs cuddling Juno, but she gets over it pretty quickly. I'll post a new pic of her tomorrow. It's amazing what some fluids, food and a safe place to sleep have done to her. She's so darn cute. |
1 Attachment(s) Here is a newer picture of "Juno". I still have been unsuccessful finding a rescue to take her. They are all full (that includes the one that works with Petsmart). Even the humane society told me they couldn't take her :( I don't know what is going to happen right now. Hopefully one of the flyers I have put up will help. |

Oh what a doll! I'd take her if you were closer. Aww... poor baby - can you post a "Free Kitten" sign at a 7-11 store? It's hard with the weather being so hot - if it were cooler more people would be out and you'd probably get someone to take her faster. Good Luck! |
I posted signs at the local vet offices today. I also put up notices on the boards at Petsmart and Petco. Tomorrow I'll hit the library and a couple other places. I've also plastered my FB page and our neighborhood FB page. I did email a few of the rescues again to ask if they would do a courtesy listing for me even if they couldn't take her- I'll let you know if I hear. |
I hope whoever gets her makes sure she gets spayed. The world does not need any more kittens. :( I hope you can find someone wonderful. I wish I were closer...I know rescues that would probably help her. :( |
That's one of the reasons I would prefer to have a rescue take her at this time versus a neighbor. At least that way I would know without a doubt she was going to be spayed. |

*nod* I wish one could have helped you. Did you look at Petfinder to see what rescues are close to you? Is that how you found them? If not, perhaps a search on there might lead to one? |
One of my vets gave me a link to a website with the local rescues listed and their contact info. I've still got my fingers crossed that I'll be able to find one to help. |
She is utterly adorable! You are so sweet to help her. Sometimes the folks at Coal Mtn have kittens that they place, don't they? Maybe they could help you find her a home. If they could put her in a crate where people can see her..... |
Coal Mtn was where I took her to get checked out. They can't keep her right now, unfortunately. But they did let me put up a sign. |
Sometimes wiping the kitty down with a damp cloth daily or more often can help limit the dander that causes allergies.... My SIL was in Georgia, but ended up in to New York by the time I got in touch with her. Kitty train to Baltimore? |
