I just heard back from the vet. Only some of his lab results are back. His CBC was WNL, his liver enzymes were WNL, the test for the intestinal flora showed a small amount of bacteria overgrowth in the small intestine which she said could be suggestive of a mild case of IBD, the cPLI result is still pending. We should have those back by tomorrow afternoon. At this time, she is thinking it may be mild IBD vs pancreatitis. She said I can give him some Pepcid in the mean time to help settle his tummy.

Thank goodness we are on our way to figuring this out.

ok so fore sure no more of that kibbles he was eating; feed a bland diet for at least 2 weeks and add some probiotics to fight the bad bacteria; i use gentle digest by ark natural. let's hope the inflamation is not that bad. i will pray for you and your baby.

glad you are getting some answers Did the cpli come back yet as dogs with ibd can test high on cpli per our internal medicine specialist - were amylase and lipase high normal ?

As of 4pm, the cPLI results had not come back in. The liver enzymes were normal. Today I took him back in, he's still not eating and he had a very mucousy poop today (like with colitits). The vet did an abd. x ray just to rule out obstruction, his fecal is negative. She stared him on Flagyl, Reglan and canned i/d until we can figure things out. He ate 1/2 the can! He's now in better spirits and resting. No more Pepcid since it really didn't help him. Hopefully, he can tolerate it and keep it down.

An overgrowth of bacteria in the small intestine would probably be considered SIBO. They can have both IBD and SIBO at the same time.

Just wondering because whenever they do intestinal testing specific for small intestine, it makes me think of a vitamin B check. High folate and sometimes low B12 is consistent with SIBO which is usually treated with antibiotics/anti-inflammatories (Tylosin, Metronidazole, etc.)

But then, no idea really because I don't know which number it was...

His cPLI results are normal. The doctor thinks that "chronic inflammation and/or gastritis". She said that he may need to continue on a bland diet. Is it safe to assume that he has IBD?

you can assume that; but to get a sure diagnosis the vet will need to do an endoscopy with biopsy
but if u control with diet then that's the safe way to go
my dog had chronis ibd and may flare ups; finally this year i decided to do the endoscopy to confirm ibd so the vet can put her on prednisone which is a steroid. tried many diets with her and nothing worked.
now i am hoping this new one wellness simple solution duck and rice will help
also do some reading on the gastriplex and gastri-soothe; studies show healing of the GI tract. also omega 3 is good for inflamation and probiotic will fight the bad bacteria. ask me if u have any quesitons.

Keep me posted on the Simple Solutions. I'm expecting some samples in the mail. The vet suggested a trial diet for now and if that didn't help, she'll introduce meds. That seems reasonable enough for now I think.

Some vets will assume IBD.
Can't really have a positive diagnosis without biopsy which can rule out other things. If it is controlled with diet and/or mild drugs, biopsy isn't at the top of the list though...
