Louis is sick, I am scared that it's pancreatitis I don't know what is wrong with Louis. He has thrown up a 3 times today(yellow foam) and has diarrhea. He is not his usual happy self. He has been laying around all day, and he can't seem to get comfortable. I am hoping it is just the flu, but the more I keep reading I am scared it's pancreatitis. Does anyone know if these are the symptoms of pancreatitis? I am going to call the vet tomorrow, or take him to the emergency vet if it gets any worse. This happened to him about a year ago, he was sick one day and then he was fine the next. Please let me know. |
Awww. So sorry to hear our friend lil' louis isn't feeling well! We don't have any info to offer you just wanted to know we are thining of you and praying that he gets to feeling better really soon!! Please let us know if there is anything we can do and keep us posted on how he is feeling! :-) |
Sorry Louis is sick. I'm not sure what the symptoms of Pancreatitis are. Is he eating? Has eaten any human food that may have set it off? I hope you get some answers and he is feeling better soon. I would watch him closely and if he seems worse get him in right away. They can go down fast. I will keep him in my prayers. |

Could be his pancreas, but it also could be hundreds of other things... Maybe just a little bug or something... Make sure his gums stay pink and moist. Those are symptoms of pancreatitis, but they are also symptoms of so many other things. |
I think a hot dog could cause a tummy upset and possibly pancreatitis. If he isn't eating and not drinking much I would have the vet check him out. Keep us posted. |

One thing I forgot to add, his vomit has a horrible smell. I don' know if that means anything or not? |
Hotdog or really any food that they aren't used to, esp. fatty foods can trigger problems. Is he still vomiting? |

Sorry for all the questions, but is he holding down food or water at all? By white, how white? White gums are not a good sign, but of course all dogs will vary slightly. Any white does concern me though... |
If he isn't eating ad still throwing up I would get him in to the vet. Hopefully he will feel better soon. |
also is he tossing and turning like he cannot get comfortable as dogs with pancreatitis are in pain. My dog had it. How much does he weigh as 5 times vomitting can be alot for a tiny dog. Diarrhea is more dehydrating though than vomitting so if you have both going on that is not good. 3 days after probably not hot dog as usually it is within a 12 -24 hr time period for it to trigger but anything is possible. Best to restrict food for 12 hrs if you think pancreatitis. Also hold up water until vomitting stops then slowly give them some and do not let them gulp the water as gulping will make them vomit it up. I usually will give little bits at a time with my finger but only after all vomitting has stopped. You have to stop the vomitting cycle to let the tummy rest. First they vomit food, then bile then white foam. What is he vomitting up now? |

if it is orange does it look like blood in it as usually yellow bile if vomitting stomach acids not orange |
Pancreatitis Hello, I am so sorry to hear your little one is sick. I had a little boy for 18 yrs and once we had a home sitter come in while we went on vacation for two weeks. After a lot of reference checking she seemed to be the right one to stay with my little Ferdie. Well ,when we returned from vacation she happened to be outside walking him when we pulled up, he acted as if he knew who we were but could of cared less,(not him ) once she left he still was laying around action, not right. I picked him up,he was acting lethargic, then he vomited a few times (yellow bile ) I called the women that watched him ,she said he was acting like that since yesterday.I ask her did he eat anything different she said oh yea Saturday (4 days before) I made chili and I gave him the "juice" from the cooked ground beef and then he ate a big bowl of chili with me. I thought I would die, What you feed him the fat from g.b. and also chili? she said very proudly yea! I said now I know whats wrong. I ran to the vet, after blood work yes Pancretitis. The vomiting yellow is from him not eating, He was very sick the vet said we will be very lucky if he pulls this ,Thank goodness he did. The symptoms you are describing sound like pancreatitis but eating a hot dog may of upset his system more than pancreatitis. The vet said no fat anything. I had to watch him closely for the rest of his life. When they get it then it is very easy to get it again. He got it 3 times in his 18 yrs. The last time, he got it, the vet said no food by mouth just water, for 24 hrs give the system a break. Then rice and Ground beef. She said that we could not even cook or eat in the house because the smell of food would get his pancreas working and it needs to rest. They put him on antibiotics and in about a week he was fine. I would be very surprised if it is panceatitis with just a hot dog. But it is possible. Hopefully a stomach upset. The yellow bile is because he has no food in his tummy, If he is eating maybe a teaspoon at a time of rice and g.b.,If he is not drinking Emergency vet is where you need to go. If it has been longer then about 12 hrs. They will need to do sub-q fluids, asap.If he is drinking water then I would call the vet in the morning. I hope he is better by the morning and maybe a call to the vet to see what ther say is what I would do. I think he will be fine. Good Luck. Brenda, Jackie, Sadie, Rosie, Julie, and Romeo |

what i would do is take the bowl to dex let him drink and if he refused i would take two fingers and put to his mouth to lick. He would vomit then gulp water then vomit then gulp water and that is the worst thing you can let them do as you have to stop the vomitting cycle. The pain concerns me as pancreatitis is very painful. If he seems to painful you may need to take him in tonight. When dex had it he could not get comfortable just kept moving from spot to spot and we had to take him in |
I'm probably missing it, but have you noticed if the water stays down? If it is not staying down, then he is almost certainly dehydrated now. If he is dehydrated, you may have to go to the ER tonight. Very light pink gums may be a sign of problems, but are his gums sticky? Or are they wet? If he is tossing and turning, then I would be concerned about the pancreas. I just don't want to see him get dehydrated and get into trouble medically because of it. |

If he vomits again tonight, I would suggest you take him to the EC. Vomiting this much along with diarrhea is a lot for a small pup. He very well may need fluids. At least he would get something to help him feel better. I hope he continues to do better, but seriously, I would not wait until morning if this continues. |
