Dear heavens, I almost miss this thread, hope they find pronto, what is going on with this little angel, hugs:animal-pa |
How scarry - I feel so bad when I read about something happening with these little babies - for both the baby and the parent/owner - it is so hard not knowing. We went through something similar 2 weeks ago (although not so severe) and I know what a scare it can be when your baby is hurting. Bridgets had x-rays and was treated with meloxicam and took about 10 days but is back to normal now. My thoughts and prayers are with Patti and Pixi that all will be better soon. |

Hugs to Pixie and Patti. Thank you again Connie for the updates. |
Thanks Connie for updating for me and for being there for me. I just got back a bit ago from the ER vet and asked for a different vet and their was one. He did X-Rays and did a very thorough exam on her in front of me. He said she seemed fine neurologically and her back seemed ok. The left knee will not stay in and the X-ray showed it out of the socket and He called it Grade 3. The right knee was in the socket but not where it should be. He said to keep her on the metacam and Tramadol for a week and if no improvement to consult with their orthopedic surgeon. I am praying she will not need surgery but pretty much know she will. She Is resting ok for now and not even trying to walk. Roxie and Cali are trying to figure out what is going on. Pixie is their leader. I am just sick over this. I don't ever remember my vet mentioning she had LP and she is very thorough. Pixie did fall off the bed either yesterday or Sunday. My 3 girls are a little wary of Nikki when on my bed because he will try and attack them. So Nikki walked over by Pixie, not to be mean, just to be near me. Pixie was on the end of the bed and she moved over and there was no more bed for her. She just dropped to the floor. She was fine after. So I don't know if it is related. Pixie has never shown any signs of LP. My dtr just came home and the others ran to the door and Pixie just got up and limped to the other side of the bed and came up the ramp before I could stop her. I guess the pain meds are working a little. Sorry for rambling I am pretty stressed right now. My house is in chaos from getting ready for the interior to be painted tomorrow and I was at the bone and joint doctor with my Dtr who has massive knee problems too. They think hers in rheumatoid based and she's only 24. Thanks for all the prayers and good thoughts. Please keep them coming. I know the power of YT prayers. |
Patti~Linda has a lot of experience with LP and her fosters. Hopefully she will be on tonight and give you a little reassurance. I do think that you are getting a better response now that you went back and talked to the second vet. It is very painful when their knee pops and I would agree with Ann and Kelli that the panting and licking is probably a sign of pain. The other day Ringo1's little Lucy was falling over and panting like you described and she had all kinds of bad thoughts put into her head. Turned out to be LP in both back knees. Hang in there and stay strong for Pixie. It's so upsetting when they are injured. |

Megansmomma- Thanks I hope Linda sees this. I know she has a lot of knowledge to share. Rachel- Thanks for the info. Kellie- Thanks so much. I guess one of the reasons I am so shocked is Pixie has never had any knee issues and her vet never mentioned it. The other is Cali has had Grade 4 in both back knees and they are out most of the time and she has never not been able to walk. I know they are all different. Now I am just praying Pixie can avoid surgery and Cali remains stable. And of course their pet insurance doesn't cover LP. I will update tomorrow. Thanks all. |
I'm so sorry to hear what's happening, but it may not be as bad as you think. Hang in there. |

I was PO'd that VIP didn't cover LP or MVD problems so i canceled it after going for a surgical consult to check morgan's knees. it just isn't worth it to me to keep paying them. i only have the 1 dog though, i know you have 4 now so i hope you get better use out of it then i did |
OMG! I've just read through this thread.... Patti, I'm so sorry Pixie is having problems. My gosh you must be a wreck! Excellent returning for xrays... Sending prayers to Pixie and you, and your DH. Sometimes Peek has taken a bad step and I see it happen...then no bad effects till the next day when he really can't walk or bear weight on it. So far cage rest has worked for him... And your dear daughter... sending prayers for her, too, that she may find answers and make a quick recovery... |

If her vet mentioned it I missed it. She is so thorough and checks all of their knees each visit. Cali, Roxie and NIkki also have some degree of it. I know I have VPI and I have always thought of switching to one that covers hereditary conditions. I don't know any that will take them with the Pre existing conditions they all now have. I am just thankful I have an emergency fund to help out. |
Patti, I am just now seeing this thread! How scary! LP isn't a great diagnosis, but so much better than some of the other neurological conditions I know you must have been worrying about. I pray little Pixie will get some relief from her pain meds. :big_hug: |
Hi Patti so sorry to hear this about Pixie, praying everything goes well for her, sure hope her pain has lessened tonight. I came on line just to get an update and am going back off, went in myself to urgent care with my neck :( Patti our vet also told me couple weeks ago that Baby Blessing has LP and that was never ever mentioned before either to us, she doesn't jump on the furniture, luckily none of the girls do, I use to panic with Cassie diving from the back of the sofas  so I vowed to train the girls to stay off the furniture believe me that wasn't easy. Baby Blessing is over weight and our Vet. put her on a diet hopefully this food will help her to loose the xtra weight she is carrying, is Pixie over weight? I will come back in the morning to see new update on how Pixie is doing. Pixie you got a lot of prayers going for you and your Mommie, YT prayers are mighty powerful. Hugs, Patti and Jack and Girls. |
Patti~ I am so sorry to read about what your sweet Pixie is going through...you both will be in my thoughts! Tammy |
Prayers from me are coming your way |

Oh no Patti, prayers coming from me! I am so sorry to hear you are going thru this. I'm glad she is getting a little better and you went to another vet. Hope she gets 100% better and that you know what happened. Poor little baby. :( |
Pixie I just read about little Pixie, Belle and I haven't been on YT for awhile but we are sending prayers and puppy kisses to Pixie and her mommy. When Belle was 4 months old at 2 pounds she somehow rolled over on a pillow and must have landed wrong on her back leg. She cried so painfully I couldn't stand it so we called our vet at 7pm and she met us at the clinic. It's a small town so they don't have emergency vets. She looked at Belle for about 10 minutes and said "she must have done something to her leg." Okay, she's a vet, I'm an emergency room tech and I knew that much. She gave her some pain meds and said we'd probably have to do surgery. It cost us $250.00 for 10 minutes (I'm in the wrong business) We took Belle home and I held her most of the rest of the night. The pain meds helped, she still had trouble standing on it for a few days but then she started getting better. We did not take her back as they wanted to operate and hadn't even done an xray. For a couple months if Belle jumped or stepped wrong she would cry and I would pick her up and rub her leg and give her kisses and she was fine. We recently moved into a three story townhome and I was worried about the steps but leave it to Belle to overcome any problems that may interfere with her playing. She runs up the steps fine and my husband and I watch her going down stairs, she just flies and her back left leg never touches a step. She was just into the vet for her yearly shots and they said she was fine. We are hoping nothing shows up in the future. We too had prayers and thoughts from YTers and I know how much that helps. Just can't bear to see these little ones suffer. Patti, we wish you good luck and send lots of love to you both.:rose: |
I am so glad the diagnosis wasn't her back or anything neurological. Jada has LP and luckily it hasn't ever popped out or caused pain. I am so sorry she has LP, but I am glad it wasn't something life threatening. Hugs and prayers for you all. I hope Pixie is feeling better this morning. |
Omg'sh, how scarry...I just saw this thread this a.m...I wanted to tell you that my Apple never ever had signs of LP, all the way up to a year old...She jumped out of a friend's arms, onto a wood floor, and didn't cry or anything...Within a week, her knee popped out, on a walk, and she fell down...I grabbed her up and it must have popped it back into place...I was beside myself w/anxiety about it all...Then I talked w/Lyn from the Haven (we live in the same area), and she helped me put things into perspective...Anyway, Apple has only had one or maybe two more episodes of this, and they weren't even as bad as the first, and it's been 8 months since the first episode...The vet did say she had grade 1 in her left back knee, and not to be too concerned...I think the only time they recommend surgery is if it pops out and won't go back in, or keeps popping out so much that it is too painful on the pup...Anyway, I'm glad Pixie is o.k., and do try to talk w/Lyn, as she has lots of knowledge about everything on the planet w/these yorkie babies...Will be praying for your little Pixie... |
Patti, I am so sorry about Pixie. Sending prayers for healing.... I cannot imagine what you must be going through with your house getting ready to be painted and all the trips to the ER. Prayers for you, too.... |
Poor little Pixie! I hope she has a quick recovery. Oliver has LP and thankfully has not appeared to show signs of pain from it. I think this situation is a good reminder to me to keep an eye on him and his jumping around. My mind set is, if he's not hurting and doesn't favor it, it's no big deal. One wrong move and that could all change. Keep us updated! Hoping the meds work and Pixie is at least comfortable by now. Praying for no surgery!!! |
Patti, I'm so sorry to hear about your terrible scare with Pixie. My heart was racing reading yours and Connie's posts. Thank goodness they think they've found the problem. I'll keep sweet Pixie in my prayers. How is she feeling this morning? |
Sending prayers your way...... |
I'm just seeing this - how is she today Patti ? Connie - thanks so much for being such a friend to her and I'm sending postive thoughts to Patti and Pixie ! She's such a tiny thing and I hope things are looking better today..... |
Just seeing this...quickly read the news and looked for an update. As much as I hate to say...I'm glad it's LP...I'm glad. Prayers for Pixie and hope she's doing better soon! |
Just checking to see how little Pixie is doing today, I hope she is much better!. |
I got an email from Patti. She said Pixie was pretty quiet all night, but trying to move around a bit. I'm sure it's chaotic at her house right now with painters there and all furniture and belongings moved out of place. It's stressful enough, but with poor Pixie's problems, it's just so hard on Patti. Please pray for both she and Pixie. |
Thank you for keeping us updated, Connie. If you talk to Patti again, please let her know we're thinking of her and Pixie. |
Sending some get well vibes Pixie's way from me and Zoe (((hugs))) |
